Rejuvenating Post-Weekend Mask (recipe)

Hello loves!

Most people call me crazy, but Sunday’s are actually one of my favourite days. Whether you wake up early (like me) or you have a lay-in, Sunday’s are just one of the calmest days. You can use it to putter or get life organized.

My favourite thing to do on Sunday (or any day, I know some of us work the weekend) is to treat myself to a face mask. Personally, after the late nights, the makeup, and lazy face washing, my skin typically needs some serious resuscitating.

I want to focus on detoxing and brightening today so my mask will include:

White clay ☁️ is the first ingredient. This is a typical base for many face masks because of how easy it is to use and it’s wonderful texture. It has a very fine consistency so it doesn’t dry out your skin, but it still softens and gently exfoliates without any harsh scrubbing. It also has wonderful purifying qualities and cleanses deeply to remove stubborn dirt and oil.

Cucumber juice! 🥒 When you see people wearing cucumber slices in the movie it isn’t just to play up the cliché of a girls spa day. Cucumber juice is amazing for reducing puffiness (hence putting them on your eyes) When you add a bit of the juice to your skin care it can also have a very soothing effect on your skin. The active vitamin in it is Vitamin C believe it or not, and the acid in it is what creates that soothing effect. Also found in cucumber is Caffeic acid and is common in many vegetables, fruits and coffee. It also helps to calm puffiness and swelling. I will slice up 3 slices and then squish the cucumber until it’s a pulp.

Lemon Juice 🍋 Another great natural acid for your skin. I’m only going to use a small amount (about 1 teaspoon) so I don’t overdo it. The acid in lemon is a great antibacterial agent as well if Tea Tree oil is too strong. I find lemon juice is more gentle for an all over use. Plus lemon is great for clearing out blackheads. For me, my chin and nose are the worst for blackheads and oily skin, and I will layer this extra on those parts.

Lavender Pods 💐 They act as a great exfoliant since they’re more chunky thank the clay. Lavender oil itself is great for healing scars and is especially great for acne scars. I

Avocado oil 🥑 I use just a few drops to soften the skin while the other amazing ingredients do their work.

Once you mix up your ingredients apply fresh to your face as soon as possible! Using fresh ingredients in your face mask means live vitamins being absorbed directly into the skin.

I leave this mask on for about 10-15 mins. You will feel the acid from the lemon juice ‘tingling’. This is it acting as a chemical exfoliant. The lemon an cucumber make this face mask smell so fresh!

While washing off the mask I massage it into my face and let the clay and lavender do their work.

Then once I wash it off I apply my moisturizer and finish my skin care routine. I feel like a brand new woman after! 😊 The next morning my skin always feels incredibly soft too.

Green is Gold!

Hello everyone!

Since spring has officially sprung, it usually symbolizes warmer weather and colorful patterns. My new favorite goodies that spring has been offering is from the earth itself, and what it has to offer. The beautiful wildlife, and the fruits, berries and vegetables that this beautiful country has given us.

Hopefully I didn’t get too poetic out there for everyone 😛

Back to the point, my goal this spring was to get back into healthy eating. I took a slight detour around Valentines day, and Easter lead me down a dark…yet delicious chocolatey path.

My new love is juicing. A really quick way to nourish your body with a lot of vitamins and a plethora of flavor.

Here is my Kale, Grapefruit, Orange, and Cucumber juice blend!

It’s a serious hit of vitamin c after the flu season, and kale offers a boost of calcium and protein.

Unreal Banana Pancakes!

How is everyone on this beautiful Tuesday afternoon?

I am wonderful today, I can tell you that! I started my day off right with a delicious, but also ‘flukey’ breakfast, and I am here to tell you how I achieved that, leaving out the parts that are to do with my lack of preparation and shopping skills 😛

If it wasn’t already apparent, pancakes are my favorite ‘go to’ breakfast when I have a day off, and enough time in her morning to putter and really put a lot of effort into my cooking.

As you can imagine I was off to the races this morning, boyfriend by my side pulling out all the fixings for pancakes that I had promised to make. Things were looking good until I got to the eggs. Or rather, the lack of them. I had zero eggs in my fridge, and a damper on the morning. I was close to giving up on my pancake-y dream when I had a swell idea.

Time to substitute! I remembered something a friend of mine told me about making pancakes just out of banana and a bit of egg. While I obviously didn’t have the egg, I devised a recipe that worked out to be delicious!

  • 1 moderately ripe banana
  • 1/4 cup of flour
  • 1/4 cup vanilla or plain yogurt
  • milk (you can add as much or as little, until you get the right consistency)

Other good stuff you can add would be nutmeg, or cinnamon, both go super with bananas.

Mash your banana with a fork very well; you can decide for lumpy bananas or smooth. I decided to mix mine quite well because I wanted it to mimic the texture of an egg.

After you add the yogurt and flour, add in your milk and give it all a good whisk together. These pancakes are more like crepes, considering how flat they are.

Because the banana and yogurt have a bit of sugar the pancakes will brown a bit more than your regular ol pancakes, but the flavor is still wonderful and they do not taste burnt at all.

To top it off, simply add a mix of your favorite berries in a sauce pan on medium heat to make your own delicious berry toppings!

In addition to the pancakes I had a couple yummy breakfast links because why not 😛

Super Granola Pancakes

How is February treating everyone? Fabulous I hope!

I come bearing another super pancake recipe for all my pancake loving amigos out there! (Let’s be honest the majority of the world loves pancakes in some way.)

I had one of those mornings recently where I just couldn’t decide between a quick ‘shovel it in’ type of breakfast, or a very care taken meal. So I took the best of both worlds in both of those categories. That would be: granola and pancakes. Put them together and what do you get? Granola cakes!

You will need:
•1 cup flour
•1/4 cup instant oats (soaked in hot water, then water drained)
•1 teaspoon baking powder
•1 egg
•Milk (add until right consistency)
•A good hand full of crasins, walnuts, pumpkin seeds, and any other scrumptious things you can think of. 🙂
•A dash of nutmeg and cinnamon
•a pinch of salt

Have a skillet or frying pan on medium heat, and coat with a splash of coconut oil. (Make sure that it isn’t so hot that the oil will smoke. Just hot enough to sizzle when water splashed on it.)

I will always start with a cup of milk to begin with, but add more later to get the batter to the right consistency.
Begin to mix your milk and your egg together. I always mix them in a measuring glass, but I have no idea if that is proper cooking etiquette or not 😂

Next in a separate bowl sift together all your dry ingredients. Sifting is not a necessary step, but it will make the batter more even, and chances of any lumps way less.

Once all the dry ingredients are mixed together you can pour in the wet mix slowly, stirring constantly to make sure it mixes evenly. Then add your quick oats. Once mixed this is where you have to work quickly to add your seeds and cranberries not stirring too much as you don’t want to over mix, and deactivate the baking soda.

In fact, a good tip would be to prep them ahead of time or have them in your dry ingredient bowl before mixing.

I always save a little of the nuts and seeds to sprinkle on top and create a lovely pattern.

Now you can drop your batter into the pan and voila! You’re cooking some wicked pancakes! Be sure to cook until lightly brown on each side and enjoy!

I also chose to have a tiny bit of mocha yoghurt on the side! 😜

Avocado bread sticks!

Hello lovely people!

I have found a new love in the form of a super food. Or super vegetable should I say?

As usual I am very late to the bandwagon on this trend. With most things I eventually fall in love with, there is some scepticism in the beginning. Then I totally fall head over heels. Following along with fads is something I convince myself I don’t do, but in the end I realize I’ve been missing out all along.

And that is what brings me to my avocado love and this amazing snack!
The idea what brought to me courtesy of my fellow foody friend at work.

The 3 main ingredients you need are:

⭐Panko bread crumbs (or just crushed up crutons)

⭐Avocado (peeled and sliced)

⭐And a bit of milk for dipping.

The secret to these are all in the spices. The first time around I made these, they were very bland. Just using the bread crumbs did not work out. So I decided to add a little ‘pizazz’ to them. Que the smoked paprika, chipolte cayanne, and Montreal steak seasoning. Bingo! Taste town, population: me. (So corny, I know) but honestly they were just that delectable.

The set up is very simple for these. Dip the avocado in the milk, then the crumbs, and pan fry immediately. I use coconut oil or olive oil to cook with.
The other alternative is to bake in the oven.

On the side I dressed it up with a tequila spiked salsa, but I thought a lovely chipolte mayo would be a wonderful companion for them as well.

Go Bananas!

I apologize for my absence from this blog! It feels like forever since my last post. But my excuse is quite good. Since December is just around the corner, and the holiday season has already started for those who work in customer service. Its amazing how quick the decorations fly up, and suddenly the check outs are miles long!

Each day it gets colder and colder. And the more baking and cooking I love to do. One super food that shows up amply is the one and only Banana.

So I come baring gifts! Here I have 3 of my most favorite banana recipes of all time.

#1. Lazy Morning Banana Pancakes :

Not just a Jack Johnson song! Banana pancakes are one of my favorite foods. No kidding around,  I would love to eat these bad boys for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Unfortunately my hips don’t allow that. So I’ve come up with a healthier (sorta) alternative.

  1. 1 egg
  2. 1/2 cup flour (your choice of white, whole wheat ect.)
  3. 1/4 cup finely ground almond
  4. 1 tablespoon maple syrup
  5. 1 tablespoon baking powder
  6. 1 mashed banana
  7. a dash of cinnamon and nutmeg for flavor
  8. heaping spoon of vanilla Greek yogurt (for texture)
  9. milk (add until correct consistency)

Mix the wet ingredients. Mix the dry together. Add both together. Cook in frying pan medium heat. Boom. Add pumpkin seeds to garnish.

#2. Big Breaky Bowl:

Okay, so this technically isn’t a real “recipe”, but still deserves the credit of one. This beautiful invention arose when I had many ingredients for a lovely breakfast, but no motivation to cook.

It is made of four basic compartments: A fruit, a protein, a dairy (or non dairy. This is a zero effort recipe so go nuts! or seeds. Hehe) and a complex carbohydrate.

You can do this any way you want. I prefer to mix it all together after I’ve put it together nicely.

#3. Scrumptious Banana Bread:

If bananas and chocolate got together and made love, this would be the product. A beautiful bundle of joy. Or should I say Bundt of joy? (Okay, I will stop with the baking puns.)

Now all jokes aside, this bread means business. All you need:

  1. 3 over ripe bananas (The more ripe, the more flavor. But not rotten)
  2. 2 cups of flour
  3. 1/4 cup of butter, and 1/4 cup of coconut oil (trying to be healthy here)
  4. 1/2 cup brown sugar
  5. 1/2 cup finely chopped walnuts.
  6. 2 eggs
  7. a pinch of salt
  8. chocolate chips (some for in the bread, some for on top, and some for me)
  9. 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  10. 1 teaspoon baking powder

First cream together your butter and coconut oil, adding in your sugar. then mix in your banana and beaten eggs. Stir in vanilla extract.

Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt. Add wet ingredients to dry. Then stir in walnuts, chocolate chips, add any other goodies you desire.

Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Voila! 🙂
