Fall Makeup Favourites.

Hello everyone! Happy Friday!

Truth be told, I am sitting on my couch writing this while it pours with rain outside. Hot coffee in my hand it feels only suitable that I am writing about my Fall Makeup Favorites.

I recently bought the NARS Extreme Effects shadow and have fallen in love with it very quickly. It’s the perfect blend of Fall colors. I love buying from Hudsons Bay because you always receive a bunch of freebies with your order, making it that much more exciting. This time around I got a free eyeshadow primer from NARS and a whole goodie bag from Clinique!

The palette itself is just stunning. NARS is hands down one of my favorite high-end brands. The quality of the shadows are pigmented, yet apply buttery soft.

Along with my NARS eyeshadow, I’ve been obsessed with the NYX Soft matte lip creams. My go-to shades right now are Copenhagen and Stockholm. I had to re-stock these shades because I ran out of my selection from last year. I know this might be different from other opinions, but I really like how light they feel on the lips after they dry. I dont like how some liquid lipsticks feel thick and chalky. These are an absolute dream to wear.

Those colours though! Such a fall aesthetic 😍

Also I’ve been looking at Tik Tok lately… Should I use it? Am I missing out if I don’t?

I feel like it’s going to be something where I don’t like it at first, and then suddenly I’ve fallen deeply into it and totally obsessed. I am still not entirely sure how to use it.

Anyway, TGIF everyone! What are your plans this weekend?

I’m going to carve pumpkins and drink a bit of wine with my friends. πŸŽƒ πŸ₯‚

Copper Gold Eye Look β˜€οΈπŸ₯‚

Hello everyone! Happy August to you! β˜€οΈ

I know it’s been a while since I posted. School kept me crazy busy with my Airbrushing final project and basically every waking moment I had was spent painting, or planning it. πŸ˜…

But I’m back! And ready for a fun post! I recently did a very summer themed makeup look and I really wanted to share it! It’s one of my favourite looks even for Fall because it uses lots of copper and gold eyeshadows. 😊 (not that I’m thinking about fall yet)

Putting Together My NYX Profession Palette πŸŽ¨

Hello loves! How are you doing today? 😊

Last weekend was bursting with fun because I was in Vancouver celebrating my friends birthday. Not only did we indulge in fun birthday activities, but we all took a well-deserved visit to the NYX Professional Makeup store downtown.

As soon as we walked in we were greeted with the most fun/helpful/upbeat staff ever, AND it was their 1 year anniversary for the location so they had an amazing little gift with every purchase. NYX is just killin’ it in my opinion and the staff at that location are out of this world.

So I left with my very own hand-selected palette. As a makeup artist (in training) and being a bit of a newbie, this was so dang fun and I can’t wait to go back. That store is an MUA’s paradise! ❀️

The first thing I loved was that each eyeshadow came in its own adorable envelope with the names on the front.

I was trying to really plan my palette responsibly and pick colours I need and knew I’d love for sure. Also some colours I just thought were too fun to pass up.

I had so much fun swatching every colour and chatting with the lovely gals. They told me all of their favourite colours so I was sure to grab some of their recommendations too.

After swatching the shadows I was thoroughly impressed. The matte/light shadows are not chalky and are very soft. I found that finding a good wash for the eyelid is essential to a great look so I splurged on 2 great colours called ‘Immaculate’ and ‘Sin’.

Next, I was overwhelmed by the glorious shimmers. The first one that caught my eye was ‘Liquid Gold’. Boy, is that true to its name. It’s so pigmented but has minimal fallout. I felt my jaw actually drop as I swatched it in the store. The only shadow that has a slightly different formula is the bright green one called ‘Venom’. This one is still pigmented and glittery, it just seems to come off in a chunk when you swatch it like the formula was made a bit softer.

All the colours follow true with their amazing standards. There is a big difference between swatching on your hand and actual application, so I will have a full look and review up soon ❀️ I’m very excited for my gold/orange and green colours… ok I’m excited for all of them!

I have to say it was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had in a makeup store, with or without the perks. I haven’t been this excited about a palette in a long time! 😊

Has anyone else ever been into a NYX Professional Makeup store?

Thanks for stopping by!

Drugstore Valentine’s Day Look πŸ’•

Hello everyone!

I wanted to share this look I created yesterday with you. I knew I wanted to do pink and bold, but I didn’t know I would go that bold! Nonetheless, I love it. Pink is one of my absolute favourite colours, every shade of it. So that’s what I tried to do was create a look using many different shades of pink, while still looking well put together and wearable.

I initially was going to do a cut crease but decided it was a bit too intense so instead, I did a half cut crease, and just gently blended the shadows out to diffuse the intensity. I incorporated a bit of gold into the crease just to add an extra dimension of colour to the look.

On my lips I tried a bit of a ‘lip contour’, using a light pink to line my lips and fill in most of them. I then used a liner slightly darker than my natural lip colour to line just the inner corners of my lips, the bottom corners and very bottom of my lip. This was my first attempt at this and I think it turned out quite good!

I had a lot of fun creating this look because it’s very out-there (even for me) and it was empowering to step out of my comfort zone!

What I used on my Eyes were:

Maybelline Blushed Nudes palette

NYX On the Go palette and Primer (for cut crease as well)

Covergirl Total Tease Mascara

E.l.f Baked Highlighter in Moolight Pearls (inner corner and cut crease)

On my skin:

I did my usual foundation routine with Nars Sheer glow, Match Perfection Concealer and E.l.f setting powder and E.l.f ‘Moonlight Pearls’ highlight.

(I figure I won’t bore you with my very repetitive foundation and brow routine :p )

On my lips:

I used the LΓ³real Colour Riche Lip liner in ‘All About Pink’ to fill in my lips.

Annabelle Lip liner in ‘Demure’ to ‘contour’ my lips. πŸ‘„ (like I said before I’m not a professional at all, this was just a little makeup experiment)

A happy Valentine’s Day to everyone! I know it’s a silly Hallmark holiday but any excuse to have a little fun I’ll take it 😊 Hope you enjoyed this look!

What are you guys up to this V-day? Spending it with an SO? Having a little self love day? Or completely ignoring it because it really is just like any other day? πŸ˜›

Thanks for stopping by!

My Favourite Red Lipsticks for Christmas πŸ’„

Who doesn’t love a red lip?

Red lipstick looks good on every shade of skin and tone. Finding the perfect red lipstick can be as good as finding chocolate in your stocking! :p

And with the list going on of all the amazing drugstore brand lipsticks, you can find the perfect one without sacrificing your wallet this Christmas.

The swatches match the photos from right to left πŸ˜˜πŸ’‹

Starting off with the Revlon Colour Stay Moisture Stain: I have purchased 3 of these over all, and have used all of them religiously. Upon first application the texture is light and airy, but glossy and full of pigment. For someone who is strictly a matte lip kinda gal, this really says something. This is a more expensive drugstore item but worth it for the double feature of a lipstick and a lip stain. Here I have the shades Miami Fever and Shanghai Sizzle. Next sticking with the theme of glossy red lips I love the NYX Xtreme Shine Lip Cream in the shade Absolute Red. This is a high gloss, high pigment lipstick for that perfect Marilyn Monroe pout. My pointer, invent in a good lip liner to avoid and bleeding lines. πŸ’‹

I have 2 NYX Matte Lipsticks that are ride or die in my makeup bag Indie Flick and Merlot. Indie Flick is and orange red and is vibrant and bright for the holidays, where Merlot has shades of purple in it, perfect for sultry winter evenings. Both are True Matte Lipsticks, semi dry down, without drying out your lips.

Rimmel Kate Moss in Shade 10: This lipstick was highly influenced by my favourite Youtuber/blogger Zoella, who swears by this lipstick and so do I. This particular shade is the most classic red in my mind and when used with a lipliner and brush, you can create the most precise red lip, for a low price.

Last but not least is the highest priced lip to from Ciate London in the shade Diva. This is a mousse lipstick and half drys down on the lips. I’ve spoken about this before, and while it’s not a true Matte, the texture it creates is worth the few smudges here and there. Plus I have to shoutout to the applicator for being a perfect doe-foot applicator for a red lip on the go!

I hope everyone had been enjoying their lead up to the holidays! Happy (almost) Holidays everyone!

I’d love to follow everyone from here so leave a comment and let me know you’re from WordPress! I’ll follow you back! I’m very new to the whole Instagram blogging thing so I want to get caught up! 😁

Also that is indeed the Lush 12 Days of Christmas gift box 🎁 and yes a review will be coming soon for it! πŸŽ‰

How is your week going so far?

Fun question of the week: My brother thinks you should wait until December 1st before you drink any eggnog or listen to Christmas music. Do you agree?

(I’m on the opposing side since I’ve already been listening to Christmas music a bit and had eggnog :p)

October FX Makeup! πŸ‘»

Hello everyone! How are we doing today?

Since I love Halloween and Fall, I wanted to try something special for the month of October. Every week in October I want to try a new makeup look, whether it’s gore, beauty, or fantasy.

I just wanted to try something fun and different, something like this which I’ve never tried before!

Anyhoo for this weeks instalment I wanted to try colourful and a bit abstract. The first thing that came to mind was Mermaid! 🐠

This is kind of my take on a heartbroken Mermaid, which I have no idea how my brain concocted that idea.

I knew I wanted to do a Mermaid, and had the prosthetics made and ready to go, but I just needed the rest of my character.

The prosthetics are made out of super lightweight clay (from the dollar store), and set using liquid latex, which is great for holding colour.

Surrounding that are β€˜barnacles’ sculpted out of Ben Nye scar wax.

On the face I used:

πŸ‘» Rimmel Lasting Finish 25 hour foundation in Ivory

πŸ‘» E.l.f setting powder

πŸ‘» NYX β€˜On the Go’ Palette (using vivid pink, green and purple shades)

πŸ‘» Milani Vital Brights (green and pearl)

πŸ‘» Covergirl Total Tease Mascara, very coated to look spidery, and smudged under the eye.

πŸ‘» I kept the lips muted with foundation to keep the eyes and face the focus of colour.

I also wanted to keep this very drugstore friendly, especially since not everyone has time (on money) to go and buy all new makeup just for Halloween. There are lots of great spooky options right at your fingertips.

Thank you guys for reading and please leave a comment telling me what you love most about this season! πŸŽƒ

Have a wonderful day!

Disappointing Drugstore Products…

Hello loves!

Anyone who knows me, is aware that I try to be a very positive person. I try to find the up side in everything, and stay away from negativity.

That is one of the big reasons I have avoided doing any blog posts like this, but I have realized as a writer and an avid beauty lover sometimes you have to share a little critique.

Yes, I have made a list of what I consider disappointing beauty products. Now I understand all our opinions and experiences may different , so I want to state this is merely my opinion and what I like/dislike will differ from what others think. πŸ™‚

(I laughed as I was taking the following pictures because I felt like I was taking mugshots of all the products πŸ˜‚)

<<<<
irst disappointment really hit hard with the Physicians Formula 'Glow and Mood Boosting Blush. I had heard so many rave reviews about this brand so I thought I would try them out. I feel like I got very sucked into the hype with this product. Along with the blush I bought a Pearl Highlighter, which I have given away due to my dislike towards that product as well. From first swatch this blush had no pigmentation to it. I decided to use my brush and try it on my cheeks. It took forever to get any colour pay off, and on top of that, by the second time I went to use it, it had this weird layer on it that made it impossible to get any product out. I tried scraping it with a eyebrow brush to get it off but it continued to 'crust over' no matter what I did. I am willing to give Physicians Formula another try, but I need some great recommendations before I spend any more dollars on their products.

πŸ’€ The next product was another hype I got seriously sucked into, and that was the Katy Kat Matte lipsticks by Katy Perry. This was another product I was disappointed by the first swatch. I have tried far better matte lipsticks for way cheaper too. At first swatch, I thought it was the weirdest matte lipstick I had ever tried. It wasn't matte at all, it was more of a gritty lipstick. While the colour is beautiful, the lipstick goes on so patchy it's impossible to appreciate the colour. Along with that, when it finally dries out matte, it has gunked up in the corners of my mouth and the middle of my lips.

πŸ’€ Next is the Marcelle 'Flawless Skin Fusion Concealer'. When I bought this I was looking for a great under eye, semi full coverage concealer. I was thinking, if I buy a pricier drugstore Concealer, it only makes sense it would be better quality right? No. What I got was not that at all. The name 'Skin Fusion' lead me to believe it would blend in nicely with my skin. That wasn't the case. I applied the product in my problem areas and began blending. To my surprise, by the time I had began blending the concealer had already oxidized and stared to dry on my skin, leaving a weird outline where I applied it. On top of that, as you can see in the picture it has started to separate, and it hasn't been long from the last time I used it (which was yesterday afternoon) I have never seen a concealer do that before. On the bright side I have found it is ok for carving out a cut crease, and will strictly use it for such. I am definitely sticking to good ol Maybelline Fit Me concealer.

πŸ’€ Next up is another popular product that I know not everyone will agree with me on. It is the Maybelline Lash Sensational mascara. I will keep it short by saying it's just way to chunky and thick of a mascara for me. I know some people love wearing thick mascara, but after the first time I tried to wash this off, I knew I wouldn't like it. I love having thick lashes, but this crumbled off the brush every time I used it, falling in my eyes and all over my face. Perhaps I got a bad batch? (Is that possible lol?) I know that Zoe Sugg swears by it, but as much as she is my hero, I just can't bring myself to like it.

πŸ’€ Lastly, and most surprisingly is a NYX product. I know I've probably said before that I've never found a NYX product I don't like…well I take it back. This is the NYX Colour Correcting Concealer palette. I was very intrigued by the concept of colour correction. I personally have lots of redness on my face and have always tried to combat that. When I used this palette I was waiting to see the difference in my foundation, but ended up being so disappointed… and slightly green. The Concealer itself does not blend out well. It doesn't sink into the skin, but sits on top of it. Along with the patchiness of it, it is a very greasy concealer as well, making me look even worse in my T-Zone. I kept this palette for my FX makeup (hence why all the green is gone) thinking the colours could make a good base for Special FX bruising.

So that is is! My blacklist items…. I'm only kidding! These personally did not work for me at all, but I'd like to hear if you've tried any of these and what you think of them!

Cheers!

Favorite Liquid Lipsticks!

Hello lovely people!

As of recent I have become OBSESSED with liquid lipsticks. All kinds of them, ranging from drugstore to high end brands. I just cannot get enough!

I love all of them for different reasons. I have come to adoreΒ lots of drugstore lipsticks, because finding a good one is like uncovering a diamond in the rough. All the while, it is definitely clear that drugstore brands have stepped up their game in the last year or two, putting out many amazing products, giving high end a little competition. Score one for the little guy!

Even companies, such as Lush, that are prominently know for their bath and skincare, have made a delightful range of liquid lipsticks. Had I less willpower and a fatter wallet, I probably would have filled my basket on my last little haul. Plus cruelty free products are always A+!

IMG_0375

Here are some swatches of my favorites! Just to get a little insight on how they look applied, and in the glorious afternoon sun πŸ˜›

IMG_0372

β€’At the very top of my list I started with a real splurge item. The Kat Von D liquid lipstick in Backstage Bambi is definitely a huge treat for me.
Its the most brilliant shade of pink I’ve seen, and it can go on as a very solid color, or blend it out to make a softer effect, almost resembling a watercolor effect.

β€’’Perspective’ by Lush, is a gorgeous dusty pink. The lipstick is very pigmented, and it almost feels like you are not wearing anything at all. With no drying of the lips like usual liquid lippies, this is Β definitely one of my summer must have’s!

β€’’Candy Land’ is probably one of my favorite shades of pink. Its bright but not overpowering, and in my opinion goes with every skin tone. It is a lip cream as well as a lipstick, so you are never left with a dry chalky feeling on your lips.

β€’Lastly, ‘Stockholm’ from the NYX Soft Matte collection. I was on the hunt for the perfect nude liquid lipstick, and I think I have found it! For being Matte and a liquid lipstick, it doesn’t have your typical liquid lipstick consistency. I was surprised to open it and find a mousse texture to it. Somehow light on the lips, but densely rich in color.

That is my favorite liquid lipsticks (so far)! I have a feeling this collection will continue to grow, as will my love for them too! πŸ˜›

As always thank you for reading and spending a few minutes of your day here!

Mini Drugstore Spree!

Hello lovely people!

I am sitting here in the beautiful sunshine today, very excited to chat through my recent little drugstore spree. Before this, I had been on a strict ‘essentials shopping only rule’. Which basically means I was (and now again :p) not letting myself buy anything I don’t really need. Just trying to cut down my clutter, and also monitor what I use. Also I am trying to buy products which containers I can recycle later. But that is a story for another day!

IMG_1294

Ta da! Lots of these items I had on my “3 glance rule” list. What is that you ask? Its a rule I’m trying to use when shopping more. Pretty much if I find myself coming back to something more than 3 times when I shop, I let myself ponder, “Is this on impulse or am I genuinely interested in this product/accessory/ ect.?”

This way I manage to do a little retail therapy with little to no buyers guilt.

  • The first thing I finally purchased after many longing stares was the real techniques Starter brush set. I have quite a few Real Techniques brushes already, but most of them are blush, contour or blending brushes. I really love the way the RT brushes feel so I decided I want some for my eyes. I have just about used all of them (minus the brow brush) and they have lived up to the hype for sure!

  • Sticking with real techniques I also got their Deep Cleansing Gel for makeup brushes and beauty blenders ect. I asked the lady working in the makeup section what the best brush cleaner was in her opinion, and she suggested this one. My previous brush cleanser was a total bust. It was by Kit, which is a good drugstore brand, but that product didn’t clean my brushes…like, at all.

  • Of course no splurge is complete without NYX. The first purchase is a eye shadow base, which I have already tried and love. I chose the skin toned base over the white. I can say it helps blending a lot and is nice and light on the lids. It only creases a tiny bit, which only shows up at the end of the day.

  • The second NYX product is the Color Correcting Concealer palette. This was a bit more of an impulse buy I will admit. I had seen if floating around the beauty world and wanted to try it our for myself. The peach under eye correcter worked like a dream for me, but I had trouble with the green corrector for red spots. I actually had to wipe it off my face since it had made me look like I was a wee bit ill. That was more of a learning curb than anything. Go light handed with it. πŸ˜›

  • My last NYX product is the Pro Lip Palette, in the Plum Shades. I know that the darker plum shades are more of a fall color, but I see beauty guru’s more often wearing them into the Spring months. Mostly sporting a beautiful purple or deep red, which just so happens to be the colors that fit my skin tone best. I have swatched all the colors and I can happily say that the color pay off really lives up to the display. The colors are very build able too, so you can wear only a little for a stained look, or go full color.

  • This eye shadow palette is the perfect example of my ‘3 glance rule’. On many occasions I had been drooling over the alluring colors in this palette, and so the wait was finally over. I have dug into this palette almost every day this week. While the shadows aren’t as pigmented as NYX or maybe a higher end eye shadow, the colors are true to their display and blend out with ease.

  • My last item I bought was the Maybelline Brow Drama gel. I got this because my Benefit ‘Gimme Brow’ gel was beginning to dwindle and dry up. I thought to myself, “Is it really worth it to try a drugstore brand?'”, and I can say yes it was! The color of this product actually fits my brow color better than the Benefit brow gel did, and is is a very similar consistency and formula. My only teeny tiny, minuscule complaint is the bulbous shaped brush of it doesn’t feel like it combs through every hair like the Benefit brush does. Other than that, A+ in my opinion!

So that ladies and gents, was my recent mini drugstore spree! Now back to being tight pocketed haha! I hope this has helped inspire, and I hope you enjoyed reading.

Thank you for reading and your time! What have been some of your favorite drugstore finds?

I hope you have Β a lovely day and you will hear from me again soon!
