Drugstore Valentine’s Day Look πŸ’•

Hello everyone!

I wanted to share this look I created yesterday with you. I knew I wanted to do pink and bold, but I didn’t know I would go that bold! Nonetheless, I love it. Pink is one of my absolute favourite colours, every shade of it. So that’s what I tried to do was create a look using many different shades of pink, while still looking well put together and wearable.

I initially was going to do a cut crease but decided it was a bit too intense so instead, I did a half cut crease, and just gently blended the shadows out to diffuse the intensity. I incorporated a bit of gold into the crease just to add an extra dimension of colour to the look.

On my lips I tried a bit of a ‘lip contour’, using a light pink to line my lips and fill in most of them. I then used a liner slightly darker than my natural lip colour to line just the inner corners of my lips, the bottom corners and very bottom of my lip. This was my first attempt at this and I think it turned out quite good!

I had a lot of fun creating this look because it’s very out-there (even for me) and it was empowering to step out of my comfort zone!

What I used on my Eyes were:

Maybelline Blushed Nudes palette

NYX On the Go palette and Primer (for cut crease as well)

Covergirl Total Tease Mascara

E.l.f Baked Highlighter in Moolight Pearls (inner corner and cut crease)

On my skin:

I did my usual foundation routine with Nars Sheer glow, Match Perfection Concealer and E.l.f setting powder and E.l.f ‘Moonlight Pearls’ highlight.

(I figure I won’t bore you with my very repetitive foundation and brow routine :p )

On my lips:

I used the LΓ³real Colour Riche Lip liner in ‘All About Pink’ to fill in my lips.

Annabelle Lip liner in ‘Demure’ to ‘contour’ my lips. πŸ‘„ (like I said before I’m not a professional at all, this was just a little makeup experiment)

A happy Valentine’s Day to everyone! I know it’s a silly Hallmark holiday but any excuse to have a little fun I’ll take it 😊 Hope you enjoyed this look!

What are you guys up to this V-day? Spending it with an SO? Having a little self love day? Or completely ignoring it because it really is just like any other day? πŸ˜›

Thanks for stopping by!

Disappointing Drugstore Products…

Hello loves!

Anyone who knows me, is aware that I try to be a very positive person. I try to find the up side in everything, and stay away from negativity.

That is one of the big reasons I have avoided doing any blog posts like this, but I have realized as a writer and an avid beauty lover sometimes you have to share a little critique.

Yes, I have made a list of what I consider disappointing beauty products. Now I understand all our opinions and experiences may different , so I want to state this is merely my opinion and what I like/dislike will differ from what others think. πŸ™‚

(I laughed as I was taking the following pictures because I felt like I was taking mugshots of all the products πŸ˜‚)

<<<<
irst disappointment really hit hard with the Physicians Formula 'Glow and Mood Boosting Blush. I had heard so many rave reviews about this brand so I thought I would try them out. I feel like I got very sucked into the hype with this product. Along with the blush I bought a Pearl Highlighter, which I have given away due to my dislike towards that product as well. From first swatch this blush had no pigmentation to it. I decided to use my brush and try it on my cheeks. It took forever to get any colour pay off, and on top of that, by the second time I went to use it, it had this weird layer on it that made it impossible to get any product out. I tried scraping it with a eyebrow brush to get it off but it continued to 'crust over' no matter what I did. I am willing to give Physicians Formula another try, but I need some great recommendations before I spend any more dollars on their products.

πŸ’€ The next product was another hype I got seriously sucked into, and that was the Katy Kat Matte lipsticks by Katy Perry. This was another product I was disappointed by the first swatch. I have tried far better matte lipsticks for way cheaper too. At first swatch, I thought it was the weirdest matte lipstick I had ever tried. It wasn't matte at all, it was more of a gritty lipstick. While the colour is beautiful, the lipstick goes on so patchy it's impossible to appreciate the colour. Along with that, when it finally dries out matte, it has gunked up in the corners of my mouth and the middle of my lips.

πŸ’€ Next is the Marcelle 'Flawless Skin Fusion Concealer'. When I bought this I was looking for a great under eye, semi full coverage concealer. I was thinking, if I buy a pricier drugstore Concealer, it only makes sense it would be better quality right? No. What I got was not that at all. The name 'Skin Fusion' lead me to believe it would blend in nicely with my skin. That wasn't the case. I applied the product in my problem areas and began blending. To my surprise, by the time I had began blending the concealer had already oxidized and stared to dry on my skin, leaving a weird outline where I applied it. On top of that, as you can see in the picture it has started to separate, and it hasn't been long from the last time I used it (which was yesterday afternoon) I have never seen a concealer do that before. On the bright side I have found it is ok for carving out a cut crease, and will strictly use it for such. I am definitely sticking to good ol Maybelline Fit Me concealer.

πŸ’€ Next up is another popular product that I know not everyone will agree with me on. It is the Maybelline Lash Sensational mascara. I will keep it short by saying it's just way to chunky and thick of a mascara for me. I know some people love wearing thick mascara, but after the first time I tried to wash this off, I knew I wouldn't like it. I love having thick lashes, but this crumbled off the brush every time I used it, falling in my eyes and all over my face. Perhaps I got a bad batch? (Is that possible lol?) I know that Zoe Sugg swears by it, but as much as she is my hero, I just can't bring myself to like it.

πŸ’€ Lastly, and most surprisingly is a NYX product. I know I've probably said before that I've never found a NYX product I don't like…well I take it back. This is the NYX Colour Correcting Concealer palette. I was very intrigued by the concept of colour correction. I personally have lots of redness on my face and have always tried to combat that. When I used this palette I was waiting to see the difference in my foundation, but ended up being so disappointed… and slightly green. The Concealer itself does not blend out well. It doesn't sink into the skin, but sits on top of it. Along with the patchiness of it, it is a very greasy concealer as well, making me look even worse in my T-Zone. I kept this palette for my FX makeup (hence why all the green is gone) thinking the colours could make a good base for Special FX bruising.

So that is is! My blacklist items…. I'm only kidding! These personally did not work for me at all, but I'd like to hear if you've tried any of these and what you think of them!

Cheers!

Favorite Drugstore Eye shadow! (of all time)

Hello lovelies! πŸ™‚

A quick blog post on this delightful Friday! Not my best photography but please forgive me. Just trying to blog right when I’m inspired to do it and not faff about with my big camera :p

Today I thought I would chat about my personal favorite drugstore eye shadow (if the title didn’t already give it away hehe)
It is just so rare sometimes to find a makeup product that is so good you need …well, all of them.
That for me is the Maybelline Color Tattoo eye shadow. Both the metallic line and the ‘Leather’ line.
There are only two colors from the entire stock at my drugstore that I do not own. So that is really saying something!

image

They are so creamy and pigmented. I was shocked the first time I used them by how well they blended. I originally heard Kathleen Lights speak about them on her youtube channel, and immediately went on a journey to track them down. After that I slowly bought the rest haha!

My favorite shade of them all is ‘Inked In Pink’ (the first one on the left) Its a beautiful soft pink, while still being metallic and unique.

Here are some swatches to get an idea how they look on skin.

The two matte colors are from the ‘Leather’ range, which are equally as sublime in texture and pigment. They go on a bit tackier, but blend out into a creamy dream. As you can tell I love lots of soft neutrals as well as nude colors. This line of eye shadows is one of my holly grail products for sure!

Mini Drugstore Spree!

Hello lovely people!

I am sitting here in the beautiful sunshine today, very excited to chat through my recent little drugstore spree. Before this, I had been on a strict ‘essentials shopping only rule’. Which basically means I was (and now again :p) not letting myself buy anything I don’t really need. Just trying to cut down my clutter, and also monitor what I use. Also I am trying to buy products which containers I can recycle later. But that is a story for another day!

Ta da! Lots of these items I had on my “3 glance rule” list. What is that you ask? Its a rule I’m trying to use when shopping more. Pretty much if I find myself coming back to something more than 3 times when I shop, I let myself ponder, “Is this on impulse or am I genuinely interested in this product/accessory/ ect.?”

This way I manage to do a little retail therapy with little to no buyers guilt.

  • The first thing I finally purchased after many longing stares was the real techniques Starter brush set. I have quite a few Real Techniques brushes already, but most of them are blush, contour or blending brushes. I really love the way the RT brushes feel so I decided I want some for my eyes. I have just about used all of them (minus the brow brush) and they have lived up to the hype for sure!

  • Sticking with real techniques I also got their Deep Cleansing Gel for makeup brushes and beauty blenders ect. I asked the lady working in the makeup section what the best brush cleaner was in her opinion, and she suggested this one. My previous brush cleanser was a total bust. It was by Kit, which is a good drugstore brand, but that product didn’t clean my brushes…like, at all.

  • Of course no splurge is complete without NYX. The first purchase is a eye shadow base, which I have already tried and love. I chose the skin toned base over the white. I can say it helps blending a lot and is nice and light on the lids. It only creases a tiny bit, which only shows up at the end of the day.

  • The second NYX product is the Color Correcting Concealer palette. This was a bit more of an impulse buy I will admit. I had seen if floating around the beauty world and wanted to try it our for myself. The peach under eye correcter worked like a dream for me, but I had trouble with the green corrector for red spots. I actually had to wipe it off my face since it had made me look like I was a wee bit ill. That was more of a learning curb than anything. Go light handed with it. πŸ˜›

  • My last NYX product is the Pro Lip Palette, in the Plum Shades. I know that the darker plum shades are more of a fall color, but I see beauty guru’s more often wearing them into the Spring months. Mostly sporting a beautiful purple or deep red, which just so happens to be the colors that fit my skin tone best. I have swatched all the colors and I can happily say that the color pay off really lives up to the display. The colors are very build able too, so you can wear only a little for a stained look, or go full color.

  • This eye shadow palette is the perfect example of my ‘3 glance rule’. On many occasions I had been drooling over the alluring colors in this palette, and so the wait was finally over. I have dug into this palette almost every day this week. While the shadows aren’t as pigmented as NYX or maybe a higher end eye shadow, the colors are true to their display and blend out with ease.

  • My last item I bought was the Maybelline Brow Drama gel. I got this because my Benefit ‘Gimme Brow’ gel was beginning to dwindle and dry up. I thought to myself, “Is it really worth it to try a drugstore brand?'”, and I can say yes it was! The color of this product actually fits my brow color better than the Benefit brow gel did, and is is a very similar consistency and formula. My only teeny tiny, minuscule complaint is the bulbous shaped brush of it doesn’t feel like it combs through every hair like the Benefit brush does. Other than that, A+ in my opinion!

So that ladies and gents, was my recent mini drugstore spree! Now back to being tight pocketed haha! I hope this has helped inspire, and I hope you enjoyed reading.

Thank you for reading and your time! What have been some of your favorite drugstore finds?

I hope you have Β a lovely day and you will hear from me again soon!
