My Favourite Healthy Meal: Tuna Poke

Oh my gosh do I have a good one for you. Just the thought of this recipe makes my mouth water 🤤

This recipe combines all of my favourite things: fresh fruit and veg, seafood and so many sauces to top them off.

The best thing about this recipe is you can mix and match with so many different veggies and toppings it will always be delicious.

When I make Tuna Poke I always make enough for two because it is one of my boyfriends absolute favourite meals. I’ve been perfecting it for a while and I think I get a little better every time.

The ingredients are:

250 grams of Ahi Tuna (however much you enjoy really) or about $10 worth.

2 cups of Prepared sushi rice or regular is good too

2 Avocados

2 Mangos

1 cup of bean or pea sprouts

1/2 Cucumber sliced thin

The Marinade for Tuna:

1 Tablespoon of Sesame Oil

1 Teaspoon Wasabi

A pinch of Salt and Pepper

Splash of pickled ginger juice

1 Tablespoon of chopped pickled ginger

And some assorted sauces!!! This is the fun part where you get to make a custom dressing to top your Ahi Tuna.

One of my favourite and most simple sauces is mixing a 2 to 1 ratio of wasabi and mayonnaise. Just so easy and tasty. You can mix it to your taste too if you like a more spicy Mayo, just add more wasabi.

I also use an in store Chipotle Mayo as a topping and then lots of ginger to garnish the side.

With the actual plating of the food you can display it in so many different ways. I use my handy bamboo boards but using a regular bowl and placing all your ingredients on top is just as lovely.

I tend to mix up all the ingredients when I eat it, so the display never lasts very long anyway. 😂

When I first had a Poke bowl is when I learned that healthy food can taste good, be enjoyable AND be within budget.

While we might not eat it every week it’s still a fairly budget friendly meal. Especially with the amount of takeout that is being ordered right now during this whole Pandemic, it’s been relaxing to make a really nice meal to sit and enjoy at home.

I hope this inspires you to take the time to make your own meal and sit and enjoy! There is something very therapeutic about cooking and then enjoying your own food.

Tips for a more organized lifestyle.

Hello everyone!

For me to write this post, it actually feels a bit funny and momentous. I have not always been an organized person. In fact when I was in high school, and even a couple of years after I was probably the last person who would know anything about being organized. It has been a long time since then, and I have learned A LOT. In general, from growing up and having responsibilities thrust upon us, and my desire to learn and better myself, I’ve managed to have an organized lifestyle that I feel comfortable with.

For me, it is a perfect balance of focus and relaxation. It has taken a long time to realize that you can’t have control over everything, and nothing will be %100 perfect. Once you get past that you will feel better. Some people are just ‘better’ at certain things and we all have to form our own habits based on what we know we carry out easily, and what might take a bit more time.

My first tip is what I call:

Brain Bribery.

For example, I absolutely hate making my bed. I love having clean sheets and it all beautifully made, but I just hate having to put the duvet cover on,  put the sheets on the bed etc….

it sounds so small and petty but it’s true to my core. 😂

One habit I have started to make myself take on is that I can’t go on the internet until I get my bed done. Once those sheets are ready and dried there is no going on my phone or laptop until it’s all done from top to bottom. It’s a small thing but once I plant the idea in my head, it reinforces it to make it stronger. Then when it’s done I let myself watch whatever it is that I’ve been wanting to watch all day (usually a Zoella vlog hehe) and maybe enjoy a cup of tea. It’s that moment that I can enjoy those little accomplishments, and have my reward for doing my task first.

Secondly:

Enjoy your Organizing.

That sounds like such an odd thing when I write it down, but in reality, it’s true. I used to hate doing any kind of organizing in my life because I felt like nothing had a place. Then I looked at different shops for materials that made organizing easier, and more fun. It doesn’t cost much to do it, simple things like file folders, wire baskets and hangers are quite cheap and easy to come by. I love looking at Indigo, Canadian Tire (it’s like Walmart), and especially the dollar store. They always have fun and affordable trinkets. Another one of my favourites places is the thrift store. I also have a love for vintage items and you can find so many cool trunks and boxes from there. This goes especially for people living in small spaces. Space-saving items will be a lifesaver too, so invest in a hollow ottoman. I have 2 and I store my winter clothes and random seasonal items in there.

Next is:

It’s better to do a little than nothing at all.

I used to think ‘Oh, I don’t have enough time to clean my whole room so I won’t do it at all’. Then my room would sit for days looking like a hurricane struck more and more. That was not a good mindset at all. I started to just do one little thing every time the opportunity arose. I could throw those dirty clothes in my laundry hamper before running out to work, or take my garbage out while running out the door. Like I always say: small steps can climb mountains.

These are just some of my own tips and habits I’ve curated. By no means am I perfect though, my room still looks like a disaster sometimes and I’m very guilty of leaving things last-minute. It’s also important not to get stressed out if things don’t stay perfect.

So my last tip is:

‘Just chill’. It’s good to have a structure with your habits but it’s not worth the stress if you really can’t get something done. Sometimes life hits its peak busy level and things will get put to the side. Then, you will find a quiet day to just plug away at whatever it is you’ve needed to get done all week. There will always be spare time, sometimes we just can’t fathom it in the hectic swirl that is life.

I hope this has helped you in any way or maybe brought a smile to your face!

Anyhoo, thanks for stopping by! ❤️

Rejuvenating Post-Weekend Mask (recipe)

Hello loves!

Most people call me crazy, but Sunday’s are actually one of my favourite days. Whether you wake up early (like me) or you have a lay-in, Sunday’s are just one of the calmest days. You can use it to putter or get life organized.

My favourite thing to do on Sunday (or any day, I know some of us work the weekend) is to treat myself to a face mask. Personally, after the late nights, the makeup, and lazy face washing, my skin typically needs some serious resuscitating.

I want to focus on detoxing and brightening today so my mask will include:

White clay ☁️ is the first ingredient. This is a typical base for many face masks because of how easy it is to use and it’s wonderful texture. It has a very fine consistency so it doesn’t dry out your skin, but it still softens and gently exfoliates without any harsh scrubbing. It also has wonderful purifying qualities and cleanses deeply to remove stubborn dirt and oil.

Cucumber juice! 🥒 When you see people wearing cucumber slices in the movie it isn’t just to play up the cliché of a girls spa day. Cucumber juice is amazing for reducing puffiness (hence putting them on your eyes) When you add a bit of the juice to your skin care it can also have a very soothing effect on your skin. The active vitamin in it is Vitamin C believe it or not, and the acid in it is what creates that soothing effect. Also found in cucumber is Caffeic acid and is common in many vegetables, fruits and coffee. It also helps to calm puffiness and swelling. I will slice up 3 slices and then squish the cucumber until it’s a pulp.

Lemon Juice 🍋 Another great natural acid for your skin. I’m only going to use a small amount (about 1 teaspoon) so I don’t overdo it. The acid in lemon is a great antibacterial agent as well if Tea Tree oil is too strong. I find lemon juice is more gentle for an all over use. Plus lemon is great for clearing out blackheads. For me, my chin and nose are the worst for blackheads and oily skin, and I will layer this extra on those parts.

Lavender Pods 💐 They act as a great exfoliant since they’re more chunky thank the clay. Lavender oil itself is great for healing scars and is especially great for acne scars. I

Avocado oil 🥑 I use just a few drops to soften the skin while the other amazing ingredients do their work.

Once you mix up your ingredients apply fresh to your face as soon as possible! Using fresh ingredients in your face mask means live vitamins being absorbed directly into the skin.

I leave this mask on for about 10-15 mins. You will feel the acid from the lemon juice ‘tingling’. This is it acting as a chemical exfoliant. The lemon an cucumber make this face mask smell so fresh!

While washing off the mask I massage it into my face and let the clay and lavender do their work.

Then once I wash it off I apply my moisturizer and finish my skin care routine. I feel like a brand new woman after! 😊 The next morning my skin always feels incredibly soft too.

Thanks for stopping by!

How I Style My Room in January ❤️

It’s a new year! Hello my lovelies! 💕

My bedroom really is the centre of my life. Not to say that in an anti-social sort of way, but in a way that it’s the one place I think we can agree we feel the most calm. At least that’s where I believe we should feel most calm.

When the New Year comes around I often take it as inspiration to redecorate and freshen up my room. I want my room to be the perfect work and chill space.

I hate the feeling of taking down all the beautiful Christmas lights and being left with *ahem* much less exciting decor.

So I thought I would share how I redecorate and style my room for January, keeping the positive vibes going you could say 😛

To start out I love having new bedding! I received a new Duvet cover and pillow slips for Christmas this year, as well as a beautiful fuzzy throw blanket. It was a no brainer that my redecorating would include both.

I love pillows but I always keep myself to a maximum of 3 or 4.

Along with new bedding, I am always looking for fun new ways to decorate and store all my knick knacks. I was recently given a vintage style cake holder, and am using it to hold my perfumes (while there are no cakes to put on it)

I also tend to keep my room full of positive quotes and energy. 💕

While Christmas is over for everyone , in Canada winter is just beginning! I tend to keep around a few winter themed statement pieces, and I will keep my lights up for a bit longer.

I am a sucker for vintage decor, hence why my room has a overall very traditional feel to it.

At my desk I try and keep it clean and de-cluttered. This is where I work on my blog or just watch YouTube. I love succulents and I believe they can really add life to a room. One of my friends gave me these adorable Air Plants for Christmas and I immediately fell in love. It’s nice having that little touch of life in your room.

This is usually when I take a break from candles (meaning I’m not burning 5 at once lol) and move towards lighter scents. This is a pear and ginger scented candle by Aromabotanical. ❤️

I like my room to be as organized and peaceful as my mindset going into the New Year. It’s a tacky saying (I know), but I honestly live by it!

I hope everyone is having a tranquil new year so far!

Green is Gold!

Hello everyone!

Since spring has officially sprung, it usually symbolizes warmer weather and colorful patterns. My new favorite goodies that spring has been offering is from the earth itself, and what it has to offer. The beautiful wildlife, and the fruits, berries and vegetables that this beautiful country has given us.

Hopefully I didn’t get too poetic out there for everyone 😛

Back to the point, my goal this spring was to get back into healthy eating. I took a slight detour around Valentines day, and Easter lead me down a dark…yet delicious chocolatey path.

My new love is juicing. A really quick way to nourish your body with a lot of vitamins and a plethora of flavor.

Here is my Kale, Grapefruit, Orange, and Cucumber juice blend!

It’s a serious hit of vitamin c after the flu season, and kale offers a boost of calcium and protein.

Green Gold for sure!

And I wanted to try a new format for my recipes, so here is a cute little video I made explaining the recipe! Let me know if you like it with a thumbs up (if you want) 😛

Hope you enjoy!

Christmas Clippings DIY

Two posts in one day? Insanity, I know! haha 🙂

I have recently just burst into the Christmas mood! Overnight lights have been hung in my room, snowmen put on the window sill, and Buble has been put on repeat!

With that, the DIY season has begun! This is just a really simple trick to add some spirit to your living area, without hurting your wallet.

All I used was: A couple vintage tea pots (this would easily work with Mason jars too) , some sprigs of pine, holly and fur. And lastly just some fun little decorations. I actually recycled an old wreath to re-use some of these goodies!

Pine cones, bows, little plastic birds, and bobbles are just a few of my favorite things to add to these little center pieces.

Once you’ve got your goodies together, let the creativity flow!

I set mine up on my porch with some lovely Christmas lights. It gives guests a warm welcome to your home. 🙂

Happy crafting everyone! ❤
