Today I wanted to talk about mental health. It is a topic I hold near and dear to my heart as it is something I tackle every day along with many, many other people. Thankfully it has become easier to talk about mental health online, and many people have bravely opened up with their own battles to help others feel less alone.
I won’t go into detail about my own mental health journey in this post, but I do want to share something with you that has helped me significantly through harder times. Journaling. Now I am not the first to discover the benefits of using a daily journal. I took inspiration from many other people to start doing it myself. I found that by starting my day with a few minutes to sort out my thoughts I could break through some of my anxious brain fog.
Most of all, I found that reflecting again at the end of the day I could observe my thoughts from a distance and without judgment. Sometimes, oddly enough, I didn’t feel quite ready to answer certain questions in my morning journal, but when I revisited them at the end of the day I felt like I had more clear answers. I also noticed that my level of anxiety in the morning was always far different than how I felt at the end of the day, and it gave me some optimism for the future!
I wanted to share with you some of my favorite questions and exrsizes for journaling all wrapped up in a cute aesthetic post!
I hope everyone is having a happy and healthy October!
With the whole pandemic happening I put a pause on any unnecessary spending for about 3 months. I did this mostly to save just in case anything happened, but I’m not even sure how much I really saved because my makeup budget turned into a snack budget real fast 😂
When I saw that little pink parcel in the mail I was over the moon. What’s that song again?
🎶 Brown paper packages tied up with strings, these are a few of my favourite things. 🎶 … but pink instead of brown… you get the picture lol
I did something I never usually do and had a sneak peak of my bag when Ipsy released the lpreviews. I was so happy with what I saw it definitely fuelled my anticipation.
The bag they came out with this month is so cute! I love the bright yellow colour as it immediately makes me think of summer. And the pattern is just so fun! I’ll definitely be using this to pack all my little Knick Knacks in.
I’ll start with what I was looking forward to the most, and that was the perfume Juliette Has a Gun, in the scent Vanilla Vibes.
Ipsy has never sent me a perfume that I didn’t love. They’re always such a good size sample too, it tends to last me a really long time!
The funny part is that I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect summer scent. Something light and fresh that captures the essence of summer. Then Ipsy sent me this, and I was immediately in love. It was literally the exact scent I’ve been looking for. Usually perfume is just plain overpowering for me but this is honestly just the right combination. It also just smells really good on me, like it goes well with my body chemistry… does that make sense? It’s a thing right? 😂
Anyway I 100% plan on buying a full sized bottle once I’ve gone through the sample. And that is really saying something! They always get the perfume right with me.
Honestly if you’re ever unhappy with your Ipsy bag it’s a good idea to re-do the quiz because
a) It’s just a fun quiz to take in general and
b) It will totally change your bag to what you actually want and are going to get use out of.
The other product I was most excited for was the #inmo Cosmetics Velveteen Dream Shadow in the shade Kween Bee. Starting with the packaging I was obsessed. The little illustration on the front made me think of a Sailor Moon character.
For the actual shadow, I am always drawn to gold shimmers, they look amazing on any eye colour and skin tone. Unlike other shimmery shadows, this one actually applies amazing and the brush picks it up perfectly. Hardly any fallout and true to colour. Nothing more I could want! It’ll be at the top of my giant collection of gold eyeshadows!
I was very happy to receive the Youth To The People moisturizing cream as I have never tried the brand before. Supposedly this cream is filled with a whole list of superfoods including kale. 🤔 It can be used all over your face, or as a spot treatment for under your eyes. It’s a whipped consistency so it feels light on your skin but leaves you hydrated. I’m using it mostly for my under eyes and since it’s not very heavy, nor is it scented, it feels very refreshing.
Next this in my bag was the lipstick from Real Her cosmetics.
Honestly something about miniature lipstick just makes me so happy. Most people would probably say this shade is nothing to write home about, but to me it is the exact colour that matches my natural lip perfectly. It enhances the natural colour of my lips beautifully 👄 It’s not the longest lasting formula but it feels very comfortable on the lips, as it’s not drying or too smudgy.
Lastly was the Kohl eyeliner by Sugar. I’ll start by saying I’ve never found an eyeliner pencil that has worked for me outside of Makeup Forever or Mac. Unless it’s luxury quality it tends to melt down my eyes immediately… and that’s definitely what happened here. I was looking like a member from Kiss at the end of the day and it was not working on me 😂 I will be sanitizing and putting this is my kit so it won’t be a total loss!
Well I really loved this Ipsy bag and I’m already excited for next months bag 🤩
Does anyone else get Ipsy? I want to know how you’re getting on with your June bag ?
It feels like I just did a favourites post! I have no idea where time has gone. 😱
April and May have gone by in a blink and I’m not sure how I feel about that haha! Looking back they were 2 of the best months I’ve had in a long time and things just keep getting better! I’ve been cleansed of many nuisances and reconnected with myself and what makes me truly happy. I got to put my priorities first for the first time in a long time, and I feel like myself again.
Life update over haha! Onto this May’s favourites! This month is heavy on skincare and home decor.
My first favourite has been my saving grace at school and at home for removing makeup. It is the Garnier Micellar Water in the normal to sensitive formula.
At school, we are putting on makeup and taking it off all the time. Sometimes 2 or 3 times a day! We have to do it quickly but thoroughly, and that can be a tough combination to find in a skin cleanser.
This is so gentle yet removes all the makeup and dirt from my skin in one soft sweep. I feel polished and clean after but not dried out.
Next will be no shock at all and it is The Ordinary skin care line, specifically Buffet, the Caffeine Solution, and my newest love the 100% Plant-Derived Squalane hydrating oil.
I have already raved about Buffet and the Caffeine Solution in this blog post HERE
The 100% Plant Derived Squalane Oil has really changed my skincare in ways I never thought it could. I have always had dry-ish skin and thought that it was normal. Never getting better, but never getting worse. One day our teacher was raving about how amazing the Squalane oil was and how it was a perfect primer to put on before makeup. I couldn’t help but be in awe at the effects it had on our skin and bought it the first chance I had. I’ve been using it every night and its provided SUCH relief to my skin! I wish I knew about it sooner. It is a thin oil that you smooth on your skin after moisturizing (I use it just before bed). I have seen such a difference I feel like it has rekindled my love of wearing makeup because my skin looks so amazing and healthy. This is definitely my #1 favourite for May and will probably continue on into June 😛
My next two favourites are homeware items and will be no surprise to you if you follow me on Instagram or here. They are the Coconut Leaves candle from Bath and BodyWorks, and my cute Cactus Mason Jar cup that I picked up from the dollar store. I love the fresh tropical scent of the Coconut Leaves candle, I never get tired of it. Along with that, my Cactus Mason Jar cup is just the perfect vessel for a mojito cocktail or mocktail.
Next, I have totally gotten back into making my own face masks! It’s so satisfying to create your own customized face mask and to know all the ingredients are organic and ethically sourced. This mask specifically is made with Spirulina Algae.🌿
May’s favourites were definitely very skincare heavy but it has been paying off! I feel like a brand new person!
Hope you had a fabulous month of May! Did any of my favourites make it on your list too? 😛
Until after Christmas I was on a no spending regime, which to be honest was very difficult but healthy for my wallet.
Now that it is after Christmas I let myself splurge a little bit, and hit up Park Royal in the city for a tad retail therapy.
My favourite place to shop is definitely Forever 21, so I thought I would show you the items I purchased and how I plan on styling them.
To start I picked up a gorgeous denim shirt. It’s very thin and soft denim so it’s nothing like the jeans that we wear. It’s also faded adding to the softness. Honestly I bought this because Rachel from F.r.i.e.n.d.s is my absolute favourite, and watching season 1 she rocked so many denim shirts I just had to pick this up. This shirt was on sale for $7 CAD. total bargain!
I am styling this with a high pony and bow, as well as simple jewelry and work boots. I also picked up some good old black tights.
I always need black tights so I decided to grab 2 pairs. Plus anytime I find tights at Forever 21 with a thick waist band I need them. Both cost $6 CAD each.
The last item I picked up was this beautiful coral sweater. This was the most ‘pricy’ item of the haul at $12 CAD, which is definitely still a deal! Thankfully my mum was there to help me pick out the right colour for me. I initially was in love with a mustard yellow one but that colour washes me out like no other.
For this I plan on styling it casual but still well put together. Immediately I knew my vintage Hollister jeans would be perfect, as well as some simple geometric jewellery. Since this outfit is full of warm tones I’m sticking to gold jewelry and warm colours.I’ll definitely pair this with some cute sneakers and a top knot bun.
Feels like I’m finally back with fun blog posts after such a creativity drought!
I feel refreshed and so happy to be back! January has already been amazing and I cannot wait for the coming year. 2018 will be my year!
To celebrate I went and indulged in a little *not so little* Lush haul. They were still having their ‘2 for 1’ deal on Christmas products, but I only snagged a couple Snow Angel bath bombs. Everything else was fairly picked through and really there was only like one shower gel left.
Enough chatter, onto the haul!
I am extra lucky because this haul was basically possible because of my boyfriend and the lovely gift card he gave me for my birthday, so thanks babe! 😛
I felt like there were lots of items that I hadn’t tried in a long time, or just flat out forgot existed. So my fave originals are:
Ickle Baby Bot
These cuties are so simple but delicious. I used to pick these up almost every time I would nip into a Lush shop. Then between Halloween and Christmas excitement I forgot all about them!
They all have very simple scents to them, making them an easy choice for any bath time. Twilight is very sweet, Ickle Baby Bot is luxurious lavender, and Milky bar is a wonderful fresh scent.
I also picked up some returning favourites like Butterball and Marilyn (hair mask <3)
Specifically I do want to rave about their hot oil hair treatments for a second. When you buy them, they come on the stick as pictured. Once you add the hot water and stir, it transforms into a creamy amazing mask.
I said this before, but with the solid masks you can store them in old Lush pots and re use for later. You don’t have to use all the mask in one go, and you can re-activate with a dash of hot water.
For hair masks I picked up 2, one of them being Marilyn and the other is called Damaged. I thought it would be great for keeping my hair moisturized despite the crappy cold weather. If its as good as Marilyn I am in for a great treat!
The last one I want to rave about is Sex Bomb. Until now I didn’t quite get the hype about it and I don’t know why. This little bundle of love is so beautiful and I cannot wait to see what captivating surprises are inside. The funny thing is I bought this a long time ago, so long I’ve completely forgotten what it looked and smelled like!
I will leave a full list below of what I got 🙂
Who else is already excited for the Valentines day collection?
Upon receiving this from my Mum for my birthday, I had no idea there was such a thing as a DIY Organic Face Mask. I am so in love and haven’t been that excited over a skin care product in a long time.
The brand is called Oleum Vera.
The packaging is simple but aesthetically pleasing. I love the natural but high quality look to it.
The product itself is also very high quality, and it’s all certified organic.
Also a big props to how eco friendly the company is, they provide all of their recipes online to reduce paper waste. I also thought it was interesting that while the packaging was properly sealed, they did not have any pull tabs or tear off seals, again reducing the amount of plastic waste.
My first mask I made out of Algae and White Clay. It detoxified and firmed (from the white clay) and had anti-aging qualities (from the algae), and softened my skin with Avocado oil. 😊
What comes in the kit:
• 2 White Kaolin Clay packs
• 1 Spitulina Algae pack
• 1 Bentonite Clay pack
• 1 Lavender bud pack
• 1 Rose petal pack
• 1 mini bottle of Avocado oil
•1 mixing container, mini silicon spatula, and removable dish.
It also came with a little letter explaining a bit about the company and where to find their recipes.
I had a look at the website and they have an extensive collection of mask kits, not just for your face, but for hair and body too! I think the concept is so creative and it lets you really specialize your skin care routine. You can even use other natural ingredients that you own and incorporate them into the ingredients they give you and create a whole new mask.
This is the website HERE! I am in no way associated with this brand or being paid to say anything I honestly just fell in love with these products and wanted to share my love for them!
Hope everyone has had a wonderful New Year and Holiday, and I’m happy to be back after my Christmas hiatus 😁
Thanks for stopping by, and if you have tried this kit too, please let me know in the comments! ❤️
