April Favorites

Hello loves!

By golly another month has come and gone!

from my perspective, March felt like the longest month to ever exist, and then April has gone by in a blink! Between school, work and everything in between I can see summer approaching quickly and I love it!

This month’s favourites are really a good mix of new products since I have been in the city and have more exciting products right at my fingertips. I can already tell next month is going to be a whopper too 😉

The first product I have been over the moon about is the Batiste Rose Gold dry shampoo. This is my saving grace during the school week when I don’t have time to wash my mane 😛 I have very thick bouncy hair yet somehow 2 days after washing the roots get super oily and everything else is fine. Therefore washing my hair becomes a super big chore and it takes ages to dry. This is where Batiste has really impressed me. When I think dry shampoo I used to thing strong scents with crusty white residue. They must have reformulated it or something because I love the limited edition scent and the texture is very light but effective. Not to mention I got completely sucked in by the pretty rose gold packaging! I’m a real sucker for rose gold hehe.

Next is the Ombra Hand Care Lotion. Something about this hand cream is perfect to me. First off its tiny making it perfect for my handbag and just the right amount to carry. Secondly, I really love the scent of it. It’s something like a very light strawberry scent 🍓 And lastly, it actually does a good job of keeping my hands hydrated. Since I’ve been in school I’m using my hands way more. They get exposed to soaps, makeup removers, the list goes on. It took a toll on my hands and working that close to someone’s face you know they see everything (including my crusty looking hands lol!) . I have to admit I was a hand lotion hater for a long time. Call me crazy but having cream on my hands always felt terrible and greasy. Yet, somehow Ombra has made a hand cream that isn’t greasy and soaks in right away. My hands felt good right after applying it, not five times after like other hand creams. Also they do not use harsh perfumes so there was no burning or redness after using it. Hallelujah!

Eau Roma water has quickly climbed its way into my favourites and becomes probably one of my top products out of all my favourites this month. I’m almost out of it, that’s how much I use it! It’s a gentle rosewater based toner and it’s helped reduce so much redness on my face. It’s very hydrating and I even give myself a little spritz to freshen up sometimes :p

(I feel like my favourites are light on the makeup this month because I’ve just been focusing so hard on getting my skin back into good condition for the summer :P)

My next favourite is another Lush item *surprise* and it’s the Ultrabland cleanser. My skin has not felt dry ever since using this delicious honey-scented and beeswax cream cleanser. I look and feel so glowy after I use it, it’s like my skin has been resuscitated! And I love how easy it is to use. Just massage into the face and wipe away with a damp cloth. Easy! No soapy, bubbly mess. Just yummy soft skin after ❤️

The 2 makeup items I have been crazy about are the Maybelline Fit Me concealer and the Colourpop Liquid lipstick in Star Crossed. The Fit Me concealer is a lifesaver during the school week. I wake up in the morning looking like a zombie and then emerge from my bathroom looking awake and bright! I can also use it for all over my face and it still feels light and natural. Having multi purpose items is a must have for me especially when packing for school!

And I have simply fallen in love with a red lip again, and Star Crossed is your classic, perfect shade of red. Not too cool toned, and not too warm either. The Colourpop formula makes it so easy to apply and stay put. I apply 2 thin layers letting it dry in between and I’m ready to tackle my day. The particular shade I have is very ‘Marilyn Monroe’ and makes me feel like a goddess 💋

I have recently tried to ease up on my social media time and concentrate more on my creativity thus making this book my favourite thing to write in during my down time. Is basically a book filled with writing prompts about life. It asks you what your first kiss was, what your childhood bedroom was like and even what your first experience with real tragedy was. It’s all about your life and is a wonderful place to keep track of all your memories and future endeavours. I got this from Indigo and I feel it’s helped me relax and expand my mind more.

Lastly, I have been reading a lot more in April. I finished ‘The Curious Incident Of the Dog in the Nighttime’ and swiftly moved into a new book. This one is called ‘Too Close to the Falls’ and it follows the life of an eccentric little girl from the ages of 5-12 years old. It is a memoir which makes it even more incredible. So far I’ve loved it, and it is so brilliant reading from a kids perspective. I can’t put it down but I don’t want to read it too quick haha! I totally recommend it. 😊

Do you guys have any favourite books or creative outlets you’ve been loving this month?

Happy Thursday everyone!

Hydro Boost Review

Hello lovely peeps 👋🏻

I wanted to have a fun chat through of the new (more new to me than anything) Neutrogena Hydro Boost gel crème.

Now that I am a student I am trying to make smarter purchases and to be less impulsive on my product choice.

What prompted this, is that I am almost out of my Cliniqué moisture surge. It’s been my skin care holy grail for a couple years now and I painfully realized I just don’t have the $60 to spend on it.

I was looking through Shoppers and came across the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Cremè and spotted a lot of similarities not only in packaging but in the formulation as well. I had used the serum from this line before and loved what it did for my skin.

I decided that the sale price was worth it (a steal of a deal at $19 marked down from $26) and bought it!

The Formula: Right away the consistency of it is very similar to the moisture surge: Clear and blue (instead of clear and pink). It has the same smell as the serum too, the only way I can explain it is like the smell of a swimming pool but not in a gross way 😂 It has a jelly like feel until it smooths into the skin. The warmth of your skin makes it melt into it.

Application: I notice a little goes a very long way. My skin feels hydrated but not heavy. On freshly exfoliated skin it sinks in even better and I apply an extra coat just for a luxurious feel.

After a couple hours:

After applying and going about my routine my skin still feels fresh and soft. Not oily or sticky, but dry like everything had soaked in nicely.

In conclusion/ comparison to Cliniquès Moisture Surge, I do feel that the Moisture Surge has better lasting power, but only because of the obvious price difference. I believe if you are looking for something with similar benefits but half the price, this is the way to go.

Since I changed up my skincare I feel like it fits in easily. I’ve been going for more natural and ‘sensitive skin friendly’ products.

I spoke about these in my last post but would anyone be interested in a ‘Skin Care Routine’ post or anything along those lines? 🙂

Thanks for stopping by!

Life Changes and Becoming a Makeup Artist 👩‍🎨

Hello loves!

I know I’ve been radio silent for the last few weeks (more than a month yikes) but I promise I have a very great reason why!

If the title didn’t give it away I’ve been going to school to become a makeup artist! My course is one year long, and is and jam packed with knowledge ranging from beauty and bridal to special fx and gore. I won’t mention which school but I’ll give you a hint… it’s the top Makeup School in all of Canada 🙈❤️ Okay, it’s Blanche Macdonald! (Eek! 🎉)

Here’s a little snap from first days set up! The fun thing is as you learn your own rhythm of working, this set up can change, though mine is still very similar to this 😛

I’ve been eating up every second of it and every week is a new adventure for me. My confidence grows every day and I’ve learned to just go for it and try new things every day!

Along with that I’ve been learning a lot of new lessons in life, how to deal with all sorts of people, and conquering my anxiety one day at a time. I won’t talk too much about the negative but I’ll touch down on some of the more fun trivial things I’ve leaned.

1) Invest in your skincare. This seems a bit weird to be my top tip, but just as we wear our heart on our sleeve we tend to wear our stress on our face. Whether it’s from being exposed to harsh environments in the city or stressing over a test it’s important to help ease your skin along with your emotions. Also having makeup put on and then taken off, (sometimes on again) really takes a toll on the skin 😮 I feel like every week I get one blemish gone and another pops up right after it. Thankfully my ew goodies have mostly kept it at bay.

These are a few goodies I decided to invest in. Ultrabland cleanser is a wonderfully light oil based cleanser that really lifts the dirt and leftover makeup so easily from your face. After that I use their toner (not pictured) called Eau Roma water, and spritz all over my face. Then I wipe everything off with a cotton pad or two, and boy does that get the impurities off of your face. I sometimes do a final spritz just to really soak in the skin. Eau Roma Water is a hydrating toner (no alcohol in it) so you can even spritz yourself through the day to freshen up! Then I was on a roll and returned some Lush containers and received a free face mask called ‘Oatfix‘. I chose that one specifically for sensitive skin that needed some help. 😊 I am so lucky that where I’m staying I have a Lush only a 10 min walk away! It’s such a treat!

2) Take time for yourself, anxiety can always catch up with you. I’m sure I’m not the first person whose experienced anxiety in some form and thought ‘I was doing so good why is this happening?’. Usually I say let the good times roll, but it’s important to leave time for yourself and having some bliss. This for me has meant unplugging from social media for a while and working on myself. I was so proud that I had ‘conquered 3 weeks at school with feeling no stress or anxiety’. Well that caught up to me in a big way and I’ll just say it’s taken me a week and a half to get back to feeling relatively normal. It’s hard to do things like blogging and other creative outlets that you pour yourself into when you feel yourself being unhinged. I feel tempted to write myself a letter for the future if this ever happens again and reassure myself I can get through it no matter how excruciating and impossible it seems. It’s so hard to imagine the good when you’re surrounded by negative thoughts and feelings in your head.

Anyway, this is the quote from my planner this week and I think it’s wonderfully accurate.

3) Not everything is as it seems. This is mostly for myself. Starting my program, (and even now still) I thought my skill set was ok, but I was there to learn and that was that. I love makeup so I felt a tremendous amount of pressure to do great, but I also walked in believing I wouldn’t do as good as others because my skills were not as exercised. It seems I am doing quite well in the course and this is more of a high five to myself, not bragging in any way. There were numerous makeup applications and techniques that I immediately wrote myself off as ‘doomed to fail’ and then I applied them really well! I was convinced I couldn’t do it yet there I was doing it! This months celebration was applying false lashes. I’ve never done it, there I said it. Really only once to myself but never to anyone else. I am a falsie rookie all the way. As I anxiously held the strip lash in my tweezers I had ‘you’re going to mess up’ bouncing around in my head as well as ‘please god don’t let this end up in her eyebrow somehow’. I went in, did my best, and by some miracle applied it perfectly. That small (but powerful) voice in my head was cheering in the background, knowing I could do it all along. Don’t doubt yourself before you’ve even tried.

On a positive note I’ve been reading more since going to school. It feels like reading is more relaxing now where I used to think that watching YouTube was. But now if I watch videos I tend to fall asleep haha. So my favourite book as of the moment is ‘The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time’.

I won’t go into detail but the perspective of this book is so incredibly different and refreshing I cannot get enough of it. The narrative is charming, real, and funny.

Also I’ve been giving myself little treats for my ‘accomplishments’, just like sweets and whatnot (sounds so silly but it works) And the first week I was hugely spoiled with cinnamon buns from my Aunty. They were delightful. 😋

Anyhoo, It’s been an absolute roller coaster to say the least but I feel myself getting used to my new routine, and my confidence is growing strong every day. I’ve started running again and it feels amazing and relieves so much anxiety I forgot how much I love it and need to to it. My favourite thing to do is to run down and along the beach (when it’s not raining haha)

Spring has definitely sprung despite the rain clouds moving in in the last few days!

You’ll have to forgive me for how absent I’ve been, it’s even taken me multiple times just to write this one post 😂 between school, homework, work, family and relationships there’s not a huge amount of downtime sometimes. I’m very much looking forward to the next few days as it is Easter and all the family is up and I am home!

Have a lovely day!~M

Tips for a more organized lifestyle.

Hello everyone!

For me to write this post, it actually feels a bit funny and momentous. I have not always been an organized person. In fact when I was in high school, and even a couple of years after I was probably the last person who would know anything about being organized. It has been a long time since then, and I have learned A LOT. In general, from growing up and having responsibilities thrust upon us, and my desire to learn and better myself, I’ve managed to have an organized lifestyle that I feel comfortable with.

For me, it is a perfect balance of focus and relaxation. It has taken a long time to realize that you can’t have control over everything, and nothing will be %100 perfect. Once you get past that you will feel better. Some people are just ‘better’ at certain things and we all have to form our own habits based on what we know we carry out easily, and what might take a bit more time.

My first tip is what I call:

Brain Bribery.

For example, I absolutely hate making my bed. I love having clean sheets and it all beautifully made, but I just hate having to put the duvet cover on,  put the sheets on the bed etc….

it sounds so small and petty but it’s true to my core. 😂

One habit I have started to make myself take on is that I can’t go on the internet until I get my bed done. Once those sheets are ready and dried there is no going on my phone or laptop until it’s all done from top to bottom. It’s a small thing but once I plant the idea in my head, it reinforces it to make it stronger. Then when it’s done I let myself watch whatever it is that I’ve been wanting to watch all day (usually a Zoella vlog hehe) and maybe enjoy a cup of tea. It’s that moment that I can enjoy those little accomplishments, and have my reward for doing my task first.

Secondly:

Enjoy your Organizing.

That sounds like such an odd thing when I write it down, but in reality, it’s true. I used to hate doing any kind of organizing in my life because I felt like nothing had a place. Then I looked at different shops for materials that made organizing easier, and more fun. It doesn’t cost much to do it, simple things like file folders, wire baskets and hangers are quite cheap and easy to come by. I love looking at Indigo, Canadian Tire (it’s like Walmart), and especially the dollar store. They always have fun and affordable trinkets. Another one of my favourites places is the thrift store. I also have a love for vintage items and you can find so many cool trunks and boxes from there. This goes especially for people living in small spaces. Space-saving items will be a lifesaver too, so invest in a hollow ottoman. I have 2 and I store my winter clothes and random seasonal items in there.

Next is:

It’s better to do a little than nothing at all.

I used to think ‘Oh, I don’t have enough time to clean my whole room so I won’t do it at all’. Then my room would sit for days looking like a hurricane struck more and more. That was not a good mindset at all. I started to just do one little thing every time the opportunity arose. I could throw those dirty clothes in my laundry hamper before running out to work, or take my garbage out while running out the door. Like I always say: small steps can climb mountains.

These are just some of my own tips and habits I’ve curated. By no means am I perfect though, my room still looks like a disaster sometimes and I’m very guilty of leaving things last-minute. It’s also important not to get stressed out if things don’t stay perfect.

So my last tip is:

‘Just chill’. It’s good to have a structure with your habits but it’s not worth the stress if you really can’t get something done. Sometimes life hits its peak busy level and things will get put to the side. Then, you will find a quiet day to just plug away at whatever it is you’ve needed to get done all week. There will always be spare time, sometimes we just can’t fathom it in the hectic swirl that is life.

I hope this has helped you in any way or maybe brought a smile to your face!

Anyhoo, thanks for stopping by! ❤️

Weird Beauty Habits that are actually Good?

Weird title huh?

I am starting to realize that we all have our own quirky habits that we may not share on a regular basis due to their strangeness, eccentrics or yadda yadda yadda. I want to break that stereotype and share some of my weird, wacky, and maybe even helpful habits. There’s nothing better than finding a cool ‘hack’ in my opinion. As a beauty community, I think it’s important to show we are all wonderfully different and that is what makes it a great community.

So I’m going to kick off with my biggest habit that actually turns out….is good for you?

1) Not washing my face in the morning. I know what you’re thinking, it sounds so gross, but hear me out before you make any further judgement. I will use a cleansing wipe to freshen up or warm wet cloth to ‘wash’ it but that is all. Then I apply moisturizer and serum etc. I know we all believe that we must wash day and night but really what are we ‘washing off’ in the morning? If you cleanse your face thoroughly at night and all that, what are we washing off in the morning that is so bad? The answer is nothing. We are not exposed to any dirt or bacteria, and typically we don’t sweat so what’s the point? (Of course, if you’re sick or do sweat that is a different story). Night time is when our skin actually repairs its self after the day of abuse from sun, makeup, and being around bacteria. It needs that time to literally rebalance its mojo. The reason we use moisturizer before bed is that we strip our natural oils with the dirt when we wash our face, hence why replenishing is important at night. So don’t freak out if you miss a morning wash, or really don’t want to get up and do your regime. It might actually be good for you. Take it easy on your skin in the morning, it’s just woken up too ;P

2) Applying Moisturizer with a brush. So this might be more of a preference than a benefit. I just hate touching my face. It’s a weird habit I know (hence the title). I constantly worry about bacteria especially when I have acne so this seemed like a possible solution. I started using a soft synthetic stippling brush to apply my moisturizer and serum. I am way more happy to do my skincare routine at night, thus improves my quality of care. It is important that we like our skincare routine and if it needs a re-vamp once in a while that is ok! I was reluctant to do mine because I dislike touching my face, so I started using a facial brush to wash, and then the stippling brush right after that. Now it is my favourite time of night.

3) It’s ok to let your hair get ‘greasy’. So this goes to an extent. Like I said before about washing your face, your body has natural oils it produces to condition your skin, scalp and hair. These oils are not bad in regular amounts. The natural oils our scalps produce is actually what keeps our hair soft and scalp happy, so don’t be so quick to strip your hair of it every day. I can honestly say I go 3 days without washing my hair (but still showering and staying clean obviously) Have you ever noticed there’s always a golden time between your freshly washed hair, and when you need to wear a bun to hide the flop? I call that the happy hair period. It’s a perfect mix of natural oils and clean hair. Embrace it! Let your hair go the extra day without a wash, just wear a bun. I guarantee after you wash your hair it will feel soft and your scalp will be very happy too.

4) Last but not least: Admire yourself in the Mirror. I know, it feels we’ve been taught that you shouldn’t like things about yourself because it makes you vein…WRONG! It is totally healthy to like certain features of your body, or heck, your whole self for that matter! As long as you’re not doing anyone else harm, there’s nothing wrong with loving yourself. I challenge you to look in the mirror once every day and say something you like about yourself. Whether it be your little freckle on your nose or your whole figure. I urge you to say it and then smile. I’m not saying this will move mountains in terms of self-esteem but it will be a real pick-me-up every day. Whether you’re totally made up in your best makeup, or ‘au naturel’, I think this is an important habit to make 😊 It has taken me a darn long time to feel good or even proud of myself, and this is one thing that’s actually helped no matter how corny and cheesy it sounds.

Thank you for stopping by! Hope you’re having a wonderful week so far. Remember you can do it! ❤ Whatever it is :p

Rejuvenating Post-Weekend Mask (recipe)

Hello loves!

Most people call me crazy, but Sunday’s are actually one of my favourite days. Whether you wake up early (like me) or you have a lay-in, Sunday’s are just one of the calmest days. You can use it to putter or get life organized.

My favourite thing to do on Sunday (or any day, I know some of us work the weekend) is to treat myself to a face mask. Personally, after the late nights, the makeup, and lazy face washing, my skin typically needs some serious resuscitating.

I want to focus on detoxing and brightening today so my mask will include:

White clay ☁️ is the first ingredient. This is a typical base for many face masks because of how easy it is to use and it’s wonderful texture. It has a very fine consistency so it doesn’t dry out your skin, but it still softens and gently exfoliates without any harsh scrubbing. It also has wonderful purifying qualities and cleanses deeply to remove stubborn dirt and oil.

Cucumber juice! 🥒 When you see people wearing cucumber slices in the movie it isn’t just to play up the cliché of a girls spa day. Cucumber juice is amazing for reducing puffiness (hence putting them on your eyes) When you add a bit of the juice to your skin care it can also have a very soothing effect on your skin. The active vitamin in it is Vitamin C believe it or not, and the acid in it is what creates that soothing effect. Also found in cucumber is Caffeic acid and is common in many vegetables, fruits and coffee. It also helps to calm puffiness and swelling. I will slice up 3 slices and then squish the cucumber until it’s a pulp.

Lemon Juice 🍋 Another great natural acid for your skin. I’m only going to use a small amount (about 1 teaspoon) so I don’t overdo it. The acid in lemon is a great antibacterial agent as well if Tea Tree oil is too strong. I find lemon juice is more gentle for an all over use. Plus lemon is great for clearing out blackheads. For me, my chin and nose are the worst for blackheads and oily skin, and I will layer this extra on those parts.

Lavender Pods 💐 They act as a great exfoliant since they’re more chunky thank the clay. Lavender oil itself is great for healing scars and is especially great for acne scars. I

Avocado oil 🥑 I use just a few drops to soften the skin while the other amazing ingredients do their work.

Once you mix up your ingredients apply fresh to your face as soon as possible! Using fresh ingredients in your face mask means live vitamins being absorbed directly into the skin.

I leave this mask on for about 10-15 mins. You will feel the acid from the lemon juice ‘tingling’. This is it acting as a chemical exfoliant. The lemon an cucumber make this face mask smell so fresh!

While washing off the mask I massage it into my face and let the clay and lavender do their work.

Then once I wash it off I apply my moisturizer and finish my skin care routine. I feel like a brand new woman after! 😊 The next morning my skin always feels incredibly soft too.

Thanks for stopping by!

January Favourites

I’m going to be honest, I was so excited to write a January favourites post it was one of the only sure-fire posts I knew I was going to write. I was inspired and ready to write. Then February came along and somehow my brain just forgot about it like ‘nope nothing to see here’. So, this is my long-winded apology for not having a favourites post for a *very* long time.

I was just using so many of the same things that it felt repetitive. I was in a slump. Mostly why there was/is a lack of new product reviews is just because I’m saving every penny I can for school! But that doesn’t mean I haven’t tried anything at all 😛 I’m out of the slump!

Oh boy, where do I start… The makeup of course! So many new favourites, some I have already spoken about in short reviews so I’ll keep them to the point.

  1. ColourPop Eyeshadow. I treated myself to a little ColourPop haul in early December as I had never tried that brand before. I didn’t really do a haul post since it was such a tiny order and many other bloggers had such wonderful extravagant posts…I just felt that mine might be a bit underwhelming in comparison 😂 However I’m happy to say I’ve tried them and I’m just as impressed as I’d hoped I’d be 😄 These are the 3 Super Shock shadows I was most excited to try! They are in the shades: Fluffy, Sequin and Catnap. After playing with them and getting used to the new consistency I have started sneaking them into any makeup look I can! At first, it threw me off, but I realized some shadows I ordered were glitters (lots of glitters but not as much pigment) and others more pigment and fewer shimmer chunks.

2. Sheet face masks. This might be self-explanatory but look how freaking cute these are! I love a face mask that keeps a mess to a minimal but still delivers results. Mostly it’s just the novelty of putting one on, maybe having a bath, relaxing and then peeling it off to *hopefully* expose softer more vibrant skin.

3. Lush hair masks. Specifically speaking about the hot oil hair treatments that come on a stick. Not only do they serve up amazing nutrition and conditioning for your locks, but they are a great bang for your buck. Just store in an old clean lush pot and use a small amount of hot water to reactivate after storing. I get about 3 – 4 uses out of each, which I consider being an amazing deal. The one I have been loving is called ‘Damaged’ and it is a powerhouse for repairing and hydrating any kind of hair.

4. Total Tease Mascara by Rimmel. I think I’ve raved about this before but this Mascara holds strong as my absolute favourite (next to the Clinique Mascara) and is still going strong. I feel a bit bold saying I do in fact love the synthetic brush and just how short and sturdy the bristles are. It works so well with my eyelashes, grabbing every one! The formula of it is light but you can layer it up for a full look. My absolute favourite part though is that it is NOT waterproof, but will stay on all day with no fallout or anything. Then at night, it washes off so easy with no missing eyelashes.

5. NYX Eyebrow Gel. I was feeling adventurous after my last brow product ran out and saw all the products on the NYX stand calling out my name. I had tried brow pencils, powders and pomade, but never a gel. I have very full brows and I knew I need something pigmented but pliable to work and that’s exactly what delivered. Now the term ‘gel’ threw me off since it’s more of a liquid/soft pomade in my opinion, but I was relieved by the consistency. The colour matches my brows and it stays on strong all day. My only woe is how fast it dries. With that being the only annoyance, it also means that it never smears or budges.

IMG_3611

6. Loreal Colorista Hair colour. I recently had an itch to dye my hair but didn’t want to use any harmful chemicals (which is typically what throws me off of any hair dying) I remembered that I had one bottle of the L’Oréal Colorista still tucked away in my bathroom. I am so impressed by how well it not only dyes my hair but how soft and healthy my hair feels after. The other best part is that it will wash out after 4-8 washes, making it the perfect dye if you don’t want to commit to a colour permanently. The only downside is that it strictly only works on blond or highlighted hair. Anything darker than dirty blonde it will not absorb into the hair at all. On the upside, they sell absolutely everything you would need to lighten your hair and then dye it, and even wash it out if you don’t like the colour!

7. American Eagle Perfume: Live Your Life. Something about this perfume is just perfect to me. I bought it a couple of years ago on holiday, and it is a chameleon for every season, matching perfectly for cold or hot seasons. The smell is almost indescribable to me, but I can say its a sweet yet rich smell. I’m hoping to high heavens that it isn’t discontinued or anything because I use it about 3-4 times a day to freshen up and I will need a refill soon! Not only does the smell remind me of that holiday, but I can wear it no matter what season it is! I classify this as more of a body mist because of the light scent, which is another reason I love it so dearly. I don’t like too strong of scents, but I still want it to last me. Also, what can I say? I love a good perfume with an inspirational quote on the bottle 😛

Thanks for stopping by! ❤️

Has February flown by just as fast for you as it has for me?

Drugstore Valentine’s Day Look 💕

Hello everyone!

I wanted to share this look I created yesterday with you. I knew I wanted to do pink and bold, but I didn’t know I would go that bold! Nonetheless, I love it. Pink is one of my absolute favourite colours, every shade of it. So that’s what I tried to do was create a look using many different shades of pink, while still looking well put together and wearable.

I initially was going to do a cut crease but decided it was a bit too intense so instead, I did a half cut crease, and just gently blended the shadows out to diffuse the intensity. I incorporated a bit of gold into the crease just to add an extra dimension of colour to the look.

On my lips I tried a bit of a ‘lip contour’, using a light pink to line my lips and fill in most of them. I then used a liner slightly darker than my natural lip colour to line just the inner corners of my lips, the bottom corners and very bottom of my lip. This was my first attempt at this and I think it turned out quite good!

I had a lot of fun creating this look because it’s very out-there (even for me) and it was empowering to step out of my comfort zone!

What I used on my Eyes were:

Maybelline Blushed Nudes palette

NYX On the Go palette and Primer (for cut crease as well)

Covergirl Total Tease Mascara

E.l.f Baked Highlighter in Moolight Pearls (inner corner and cut crease)

On my skin:

I did my usual foundation routine with Nars Sheer glow, Match Perfection Concealer and E.l.f setting powder and E.l.f ‘Moonlight Pearls’ highlight.

(I figure I won’t bore you with my very repetitive foundation and brow routine :p )

On my lips:

I used the Lóreal Colour Riche Lip liner in ‘All About Pink’ to fill in my lips.

Annabelle Lip liner in ‘Demure’ to ‘contour’ my lips. 👄 (like I said before I’m not a professional at all, this was just a little makeup experiment)

A happy Valentine’s Day to everyone! I know it’s a silly Hallmark holiday but any excuse to have a little fun I’ll take it 😊 Hope you enjoyed this look!

What are you guys up to this V-day? Spending it with an SO? Having a little self love day? Or completely ignoring it because it really is just like any other day? 😛

A $4 Dupe for a Becca Highlighter?

Hello everyone,

And yes the title is true, is there possibly a super cheap accessible dupe for a Becca highlighter? Keep on reading to find out! (I feel like I’m talking like a T.V announcer and just rolled with it haha)

I was perusing the drugstore makeup aisle as I do often after work and I came across the e.l.f stand. If anyone is new to e.l.f, the brand stands for eyes, lips, face and is an extremely affordable makeup brand. I’ve always had a wonderful experience with their products and applaud them for being cruelty-free as well. Anyhoo, I noticed that a new section of highlighters have been stocked and noticed right away that one of the shades looked very similar to my favourite Becca Highlighter/Eyeshadow in Moonstone. I laughed because the name of the E.l.f product was almost completely the same as Rey had named it Moonlight Pearls. Coincidence?

when I first swatched it I was gutted. Really no colour pay off, but I was determined to somehow make it work. This couldn’t be it! I have never been disappointed (especially to this degree) by an E.l.f product before. I will admit I had a bit of a bias rooting for the E.l.f brand but I didn’t let it affect my final verdict. I mean who wouldn’t want to discover an amazing and cheap highlighter, am I right?

I did some reading and it was suggested to scrape off the top layer to expose to the ‘good stuff’.  I did exactly that with an eyebrow brush, very gently scraping off the top layer. Then I crossed my fingers and swatched again.

The swatch on top is E.l.f, and the bottom is Becca.

Finally some luck!

First thing I noticed was they are in fact very similar colours. Up close the Becca Highlighter has much more Gold in it, and the E.l.f highlighter is a bit cooler-toned. None-the-less I am very surprised.

Just being applied to dry skin with no product or primer I was fairly impressed.

But the true test of a product to me is how it applies to the full face with foundation and proper priming. Well, I can tell you the surprises just keep coming.

Dare I say, the E.l.f highlighter was just as pigmented and striking as the Becca highlighter. when I applied it over my foundation I could not believe my eyes.

I used two different freshly cleaned brushed to apply both highlighters and the exact same amount of product.

So what is my verdict?

Very surprised to say the least. If you’re looking for a good dupe, or are just starting your makeup kit, I highly recommend this highlighter.

Now while I have been raving about the E.l.f product I will say there is a huge difference in the formula. This is only a dupe for the colour as the e.l.f product is not as soft or buttery as the Becca one is. And there definitely is fallout from the E.l.f products when you dip your brush in there is a prominent cloud.

Overall I’m really happy with this discovery. I did look online and I do realize I’m not the first person to catch on to this. I’m super happy that other people are discovering the E.l.f brand though!

Thanks for reading as always! Please let me know what your opinion on E.l.f is? Love it? Hate it? I feel like I’ve said E.l.f a thousand times in this blog post haha!

My Top Skin Care Tips

Hello everyone! Today I have another skin care post to share with you.

I feel like my journey into the world of skin care has been a ride since I was a teen all the way to adulthood. A lot of learning and habit changing has happened so I thought I would share with you the tips that I live by for maintaining healthy skin 🙂 I am in no way a ‘professional skin care guru-type’, but these are just the little tricks I’ve learned and live by.

❤ ❤ ❤

My Top Skin Care Tips:

1. There is such thing as too much of a good thing. I remember I was so obsessed with having perfectly smooth skin, I would exfoliate every single day, morning and night. I realized that my excessive scrubbing had seriously agitated my skin and caused it to flare up. This is also relevant to face masks and anything in your skincare routine. It is always so tempting to attack acne with all the treatments you have, but sometimes you just need to ease up and let your skin breath for a day or two.

2. Make sure your towels, face cloths and any other thing you use are totally clean. I know it’s easy to say ‘oh I can get one more wash out of this’ but things like clothes and fabric collect bacteria easier than you think, and can transfer bacteria to your face unknowingly. If you don’t have a face cloth I completely recommend investing in a few to save money as well as helping the environment.

3. Coconut oil is definitely the new obsession since 2017. And for good reason too! As we already know This little powerhouse is an amazing moisturizer  ( and tastes delicious in cooking 😋) but another great use for it is to help grow your eyebrows/eyelashes. That’s right, coconut oil is full of vitamins and proteins that nourish the follicles of your lashes and brows, encouraging growth and thickness. Just be careful when using oil around your eyes. 😊  I will put it on my brows as part of my nighttime routine and let it soak in before I go to bed.

4. Double Cleansing is one of the most recent steps I’ve added to my skincare regime. The results it gave me were amazing after I had suffered from a break out of acne on my forehead and chin. I didn’t get it. I was doing my regular skincare routine and it just didn’t work anymore. That’s when I discovered that double cleansing is one of the only ways to really get rid of all the dirt and impurities that our skin picks up throughout the day. A single cleanse is often enough to wash away makeup and make the skin ‘look’ clean, but if your pores are extra stubborn like mine, that second cleanse is super necessary for getting rid of the leftover dirt and makeup that the first cleanse doesn’t get. I typically use the Clinique Take the Day Off cleansing balm to remove makeup, and then I use a liquid face wash of some sort after. Lately, I’ve been loving the Clean and Clear night relaxing facial cleanser. It’s a great price and I love how it makes my skin feel after ❤️

I hope this has maybe helped in any way! Please let me know what some of your tips are in the comments as I love to keep educating myself on the topic 😀

Cheers!
