How to Slay your Home Workout

Hello everyone! How are you doing?

As always I like to be honest and share my trials and challenges with you guys!

I wanted to talk about working out today, and let you know that not all workouts are created equal.
Most days I cannot wait to workout, but there is the odd day I don’t. Like I know I want to but my brain is saying “yeah it’s not happening”.

I realized a large portion of my motivation came from having a gym to workout in. The music, the machines, and the atmosphere were all part of it. I felt like my at-home workouts weren’t as good as my gym workouts and lost my groove during this whole pandemic.
This is where I realized the problem wasn’t my lack of fancy gym equipment, but my commitment and mindset.

I needed some motivation and knew what app was going to help me find it…
So I took to Instagram! and this is where my first tip comes from.

  1. Get some inspiration from your favorite Fitspo. Now I have to stress the difference between inspiration and comparison. Do not compare your body to anyone else EVER. It is not mentally healthy, and such a hard habit to kick once you start. However, it is ok to get fired up from your favorite fitness account!
I have many fitspo accounts that I love but there are two in particular that are my go-to every day! I am inspired by the encouraging words of @rachmarieofficial and the knowledge of I fully believe in having an upbeat, positive feed and these two really keep the vibes high!

2. Put on that pumping playlist before you do anything. Music has the power to change your mood and blasting your favorite playlist can take a workout from ok to super in seconds.

I love to find new playlists and keep my music up to date so I never get bored. Also my cardio playlist is very different from my lifting playlist! I like different genres for different exercises. For example when I do cardio, I’m usually listening to upbeat techno or remixes, and lifting I just like and kind of Rap or Pop music from 2012 up to now.

3. Always have your weights or equipment out and handy, or easy to access. Making your workout easy to start and set up lets you focus on actually doing it. If you have to dig through your bedroom to find your sports bra, then track down your resistance bands and Pre workout, you will be exhausted before you even start. 😂

4. Have a workout plan ready. A lot of the time you might be motivated but have no plan to put that energy into. Make a workout plan that you can stick to. I know it’s hard not to get ahead of yourself and want to get the best workout possible, but you have to have realistic goals set for yourself. Ones that you can achieve without exhausting yourself for the rest of the day.

5. You can have a great home gym set up without spending too much money. Just know where to spend it… I find having good quality resistance bands is the most important for me. I was ready to melt down when my old cheap ones kept rolling up my legs during my workouts. I decided to invest in some good ones from Peach Bands and never looked back!

I hope some of these tips can help you! While I am not a personal trainer or fitspo (though I like to pretend sometimes haha) I find these tips are great for anyone staring out! I am very stubborn so I’ve had to learn what makes me want to workout on my worst days and use it against me. 😂

Other places you can be a bit cheaper and get creative at home with your weights. I kid you not, for a while I was using my jumbo box of kitty litter to do hip thrusts since it was the heaviest thing I owned!

Happy Wednesday everyone!

Fall Makeup Favourites.

Hello everyone! Happy Friday!

Truth be told, I am sitting on my couch writing this while it pours with rain outside. Hot coffee in my hand it feels only suitable that I am writing about my Fall Makeup Favorites.

I recently bought the NARS Extreme Effects shadow and have fallen in love with it very quickly. It’s the perfect blend of Fall colors. I love buying from Hudsons Bay because you always receive a bunch of freebies with your order, making it that much more exciting. This time around I got a free eyeshadow primer from NARS and a whole goodie bag from Clinique!

The palette itself is just stunning. NARS is hands down one of my favorite high-end brands. The quality of the shadows are pigmented, yet apply buttery soft.

Along with my NARS eyeshadow, I’ve been obsessed with the NYX Soft matte lip creams. My go-to shades right now are Copenhagen and Stockholm. I had to re-stock these shades because I ran out of my selection from last year. I know this might be different from other opinions, but I really like how light they feel on the lips after they dry. I dont like how some liquid lipsticks feel thick and chalky. These are an absolute dream to wear.

Those colours though! Such a fall aesthetic 😍

Also I’ve been looking at Tik Tok lately… Should I use it? Am I missing out if I don’t?

I feel like it’s going to be something where I don’t like it at first, and then suddenly I’ve fallen deeply into it and totally obsessed. I am still not entirely sure how to use it.

Anyway, TGIF everyone! What are your plans this weekend?

I’m going to carve pumpkins and drink a bit of wine with my friends. 🎃 🥂

My Top 5 Fitness Must-Haves

Hello you lovely people,

Today I wanted to talk about my favourite fitness must haves. I feel like more than ever nowadays, there is an overwhelming sea of products for fitness and healthy living. At times it can be hard to sift through that plethora of information to find an honest and experienced answer.

So here are my 5 favourite workout goodies, and why I absolutely love them!

1. And Probably my most favorite of all is the Fitbit Versa Lite. This is a necessity for me as I LOVE keeping track of things lol. The Fitbit Versa tracks my calories burned, steps, and most importantly (for me) my heart rate. I love the colors it comes in, although I definitely would have loved it even more if it came in pink. Overall it’s a wonderful device. One of my favorite features that is the most underrated is the ‘Relax’ app. It will track your heart rate while it takes you through breathing exercises, using colors to indicate if your breathing/heart rate is in a great, good, or needs work zone. I use this quite often at any time of the day if I’m feeling anxious or stressed. It is an easy and discreet way to slip in a guided meditation.

2. I decided to fully invest in some good quality resistance bands and it improved my workout game so much! I decided to get the Peach Bands Resistance bands. I did some research looking for a Canadian fitness company and I was immediately obsessed with their bright pink and purple fitness gear. Not only are they aesthetically pleasing, but the bands themselves are resilient and have a great feel. They don’t roll or pinch (unless you really twist them). The weight of these bands ranges from Light (10 lbs) to Xtra Heavy (35lbs) giving a broad range of weight. If you need to have heavier resistance you can easily double up on the bands and get that weight you need without any discomfort. These bands are a slender shape making it easy to use 2 at a time. They also pair great with dumbbells or by themselves for the perfect quarantine workout. (Should I do a post on my quarantine workout?!?!)

3. Sweet Sweat Workout Enhancer. This stuff has taken my cardio from average to a full-on sweat sesh. It is a bit of an adjustment applying a product like this to your skin as it’s not supposed to soak in. The whole idea is you apply it to the surface of your skin and it makes you sweat like 5x more than normal (not an actual scientific number but you get what I’m saying 😉) You apply to slow-reacting areas or spots you want to focus on in your workout and presto, you are sweating your booty off. I find it helps me be less sore in the morning and helps my muscles be less fatigued at the time of my workout.

4. Keto Bomb Coffee Creamer. Just thinking about this makes me so excited for my morning cuppa coffee. Like I’m actually salivating a little bit 😆 Save your money you would spend on expensive ‘specialty’ coffee, and try some Keto Bomb. My favorite flavors are French Vanilla and Caramel Macchiato. The best part is enjoying the amazing flavors and knowing they are a fraction of the sugar you would normally have with a regular Starbucks coffee. Not to mention you’re giving your body the fuel it needs with Vitamins like Calcium, Magnesium, and Potassium. I love using my Bodum frother to top it off and making it deliciously frothy and aesthetically pleasing. ☕️ ✌️

*A a side note here….specialty coffee if fun and delicious and nothing is wrong with enjoying them! I love a PSL and nothing will hold a candle to that. The amount of sugar in a food doesn’t make it ‘good’ or ‘bad’. 😘

5. Is the most basic but makes the most sense and that is a Yoga Mat. I got my yoga mat so long ago I can’t even remember the brand 😂 But I use it every workout. Not only is it an important cushion for your body but it’s nice to have a designated area laid out for working out. I find it creates guidelines for me when I’m doing exercises. It helps me center myself and check my form.

I hope everyone is having a happy Saturday and I’d love to hear about your favorite fitness goodies you can’t live without!

April Favorites

Hello loves!

By golly another month has come and gone!

from my perspective, March felt like the longest month to ever exist, and then April has gone by in a blink! Between school, work and everything in between I can see summer approaching quickly and I love it!

This month’s favourites are really a good mix of new products since I have been in the city and have more exciting products right at my fingertips. I can already tell next month is going to be a whopper too 😉

The first product I have been over the moon about is the Batiste Rose Gold dry shampoo. This is my saving grace during the school week when I don’t have time to wash my mane 😛 I have very thick bouncy hair yet somehow 2 days after washing the roots get super oily and everything else is fine. Therefore washing my hair becomes a super big chore and it takes ages to dry. This is where Batiste has really impressed me. When I think dry shampoo I used to thing strong scents with crusty white residue. They must have reformulated it or something because I love the limited edition scent and the texture is very light but effective. Not to mention I got completely sucked in by the pretty rose gold packaging! I’m a real sucker for rose gold hehe.

Next is the Ombra Hand Care Lotion. Something about this hand cream is perfect to me. First off its tiny making it perfect for my handbag and just the right amount to carry. Secondly, I really love the scent of it. It’s something like a very light strawberry scent 🍓 And lastly, it actually does a good job of keeping my hands hydrated. Since I’ve been in school I’m using my hands way more. They get exposed to soaps, makeup removers, the list goes on. It took a toll on my hands and working that close to someone’s face you know they see everything (including my crusty looking hands lol!) . I have to admit I was a hand lotion hater for a long time. Call me crazy but having cream on my hands always felt terrible and greasy. Yet, somehow Ombra has made a hand cream that isn’t greasy and soaks in right away. My hands felt good right after applying it, not five times after like other hand creams. Also they do not use harsh perfumes so there was no burning or redness after using it. Hallelujah!

Eau Roma water has quickly climbed its way into my favourites and becomes probably one of my top products out of all my favourites this month. I’m almost out of it, that’s how much I use it! It’s a gentle rosewater based toner and it’s helped reduce so much redness on my face. It’s very hydrating and I even give myself a little spritz to freshen up sometimes :p

(I feel like my favourites are light on the makeup this month because I’ve just been focusing so hard on getting my skin back into good condition for the summer :P)

My next favourite is another Lush item *surprise* and it’s the Ultrabland cleanser. My skin has not felt dry ever since using this delicious honey-scented and beeswax cream cleanser. I look and feel so glowy after I use it, it’s like my skin has been resuscitated! And I love how easy it is to use. Just massage into the face and wipe away with a damp cloth. Easy! No soapy, bubbly mess. Just yummy soft skin after ❤️

The 2 makeup items I have been crazy about are the Maybelline Fit Me concealer and the Colourpop Liquid lipstick in Star Crossed. The Fit Me concealer is a lifesaver during the school week. I wake up in the morning looking like a zombie and then emerge from my bathroom looking awake and bright! I can also use it for all over my face and it still feels light and natural. Having multi purpose items is a must have for me especially when packing for school!

And I have simply fallen in love with a red lip again, and Star Crossed is your classic, perfect shade of red. Not too cool toned, and not too warm either. The Colourpop formula makes it so easy to apply and stay put. I apply 2 thin layers letting it dry in between and I’m ready to tackle my day. The particular shade I have is very ‘Marilyn Monroe’ and makes me feel like a goddess 💋

I have recently tried to ease up on my social media time and concentrate more on my creativity thus making this book my favourite thing to write in during my down time. Is basically a book filled with writing prompts about life. It asks you what your first kiss was, what your childhood bedroom was like and even what your first experience with real tragedy was. It’s all about your life and is a wonderful place to keep track of all your memories and future endeavours. I got this from Indigo and I feel it’s helped me relax and expand my mind more.

Lastly, I have been reading a lot more in April. I finished ‘The Curious Incident Of the Dog in the Nighttime’ and swiftly moved into a new book. This one is called ‘Too Close to the Falls’ and it follows the life of an eccentric little girl from the ages of 5-12 years old. It is a memoir which makes it even more incredible. So far I’ve loved it, and it is so brilliant reading from a kids perspective. I can’t put it down but I don’t want to read it too quick haha! I totally recommend it. 😊

Do you guys have any favourite books or creative outlets you’ve been loving this month?

Happy Thursday everyone!

Autumn Outfit Of The Day💕

Hello loves!

It’s another chilly fall day and I thought I’d share what I decided to wear today 🙂

I’ve really been loving flat lays lately and trying to learn more on how to do them. Let me know any of your tips or tricks on how to do them, I’d love to hear from you!

I’m such a lucky girl in that all these clothes are thrift items! (Except my glasses) 😮 I don’t know how I get so lucky that I find or are given these clothes 💕

Basically I’ve been living in my Hollister sweater for the months of October and now in November. To match I’m wearing Hollister jeans with beautiful embroidery and rips all down the legs. Despite what my mum says, yes I’m still warm wearing them 😛

Usually to top it off I’ll chuck on a scarf or a snood to tie all the coziness together.

Let me know if you enjoy these fashion type posts!

And what have you been living in this Fall/Winter!

Thanks for reading!

Clinique: One Brand Review

Hello loves!

Today I wanted to chat about my absolute favourite skin care brand, Clinique.

I’ve wanted to do a post like this for a while, and  I’ve finally collected and tried enough products for a good honest review.

I will start with the items that I love, repurchase ad can’t live without.

These are my holy grail, without fail products.

#1. Clinique Exfoliating scrub: I used to think the thicker the scrub the better exfoliator, all that changed after using this superfine refreshing scrub. The superfine granules leave my skin so soft after only using a tiny pea sized amount. On top of that it has a super minty pore cleansing formula that feels like it reaches the deepest depths of my pores. I will use this product after the Take The Day Off balm.

#2. Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief: Just the name alone was enough to make me buy this product. I am on my second tub and going strong. I have found this to be THE only moisturizer that feels like it is truly sinking into my skin ad repairing the dryness. The gel formula makes it extra cool to the touch adding an extra thirst quenching sensation to the skin. Not only is this great for your morning/night routine, you can use this product overtop of makeup as well. Often I will apply my foundation, and then spot treat my dry areas with this product e.g. under eye, nose even lips.

#3. Take The Day Off Balm: This is my favourite way to remove makeup now. No more hundreds of cotton pads, scrubbing your face raw, or raccoon eyes. Simply apply a little or a lot (depending on your visage) and massage into the skin. After all of of the makeup is broken down I add a bit of warm water, massage until it turns white, and wipe away with a warm face cloth. This also counts as a skin cleanser, leaving the skin soft and clean, with no dryness.

#4. My last holy grail is the All About Eyes Rich formula: This is a lifesaver. The perfect eye cream in my opinion and my second or third repurchase, I cannot even remember 😛 I like using the rich formula, it means I use less product but it covers and moisturizes the same amount of surface. Somehow this product sinks into the skin, providing relief immediately, whilst continuing to do so all day after. I will even apply it (like the Moisture Surge) after applying makeup, just to brighten up my under eye.

Now onto my not so fave products. This is not a dig at the products themselves, they personally just did not work for me or my skin type.

A much smaller list as you can see!

#.1 Smart Night Custom Repair Moisturizer: I originally was looking to buy a totally different product but a very pushy clerk had looped me into buying this. I believe what I initially was looking for was the Moisture Surge, but only had a faint memory of a sample to work off. I even explained the texture and feel of the cream and she gave me this. This product is excellent for very oily skin types ,which I do not have. Along with that it didn’t match my description of the product at all and, not to be dramatic, was a waste of money frankly. I still use it but just as an extra step for my T-zone.

#2. Pore Refining Solution: I came to the realization that I may have bought this for a problem I don’t have. I was told this would help shrink my pores and make them less noticeable. I’m not sure if I can say it helped with that at all. I think my pores are the same size, but what it does do is fill them in and prep your skin for foundation. It feels very similar to any other silicon based matte primer. I definitely would not say the it shrunk my pores.

#3. Even Better Eyes, Dark Circle Corrector: Once again, I bought something for a problem I don’t have. Having dark circles under my eyes was a big insecurity at one point in my life. Instead of trying to get a better sleep or drinking more water I bought this under eye corrector. I don’t mean that in a condescending way either (only towards myself) I’m sure there are people that genuinely have that problem, I just had it because I wasn’t taking care of myself. I used it over and over again, hoping for an instant fix and it obviously didn’t work. What did work was making sure I got my butt into bet before 11 pm and drinking 2L of water every day. Personally it didn’t work for me, and I won’t be repurchasing.

If you’re looking at the pricing and thinking ‘that’s crazy!’ I can agree to an extent. I’ve never been shy about spending a buck on skincare, but I love a  good deal too. My biggest tip with Clinique would be to keep an eye on the online store. Quite often they’ll have the option of 5 free samples with a certain amount of money spent. I have found that to be a great way to test if a product is right for me 🙂

Also, shopping during the holiday season. I know it’s naughty, but they always have amazing sales, and they put together sets of products that are such a steal of a deal. PLUS, I live for the free gift bags that they give away. I am so guilty of the ol “oh if you spend twenty more dollars you get a free gift”. Always sucked in.

As always, thank you for reading! I hope this could help in any way 🙂

This is the Clinique Website (which already has amazing holiday deals) and no, no-one is paying me to say all this I just love and support the brand 😛

October FX Makeup! 👻

Hello everyone! How are we doing today?

Since I love Halloween and Fall, I wanted to try something special for the month of October. Every week in October I want to try a new makeup look, whether it’s gore, beauty, or fantasy.

I just wanted to try something fun and different, something like this which I’ve never tried before!

Anyhoo for this weeks instalment I wanted to try colourful and a bit abstract. The first thing that came to mind was Mermaid! 🐠

This is kind of my take on a heartbroken Mermaid, which I have no idea how my brain concocted that idea.

I knew I wanted to do a Mermaid, and had the prosthetics made and ready to go, but I just needed the rest of my character.

The prosthetics are made out of super lightweight clay (from the dollar store), and set using liquid latex, which is great for holding colour.

Surrounding that are ‘barnacles’ sculpted out of Ben Nye scar wax.

On the face I used:

👻 Rimmel Lasting Finish 25 hour foundation in Ivory

👻 E.l.f setting powder

👻 NYX ‘On the Go’ Palette (using vivid pink, green and purple shades)

👻 Milani Vital Brights (green and pearl)

👻 Covergirl Total Tease Mascara, very coated to look spidery, and smudged under the eye.

👻 I kept the lips muted with foundation to keep the eyes and face the focus of colour.

I also wanted to keep this very drugstore friendly, especially since not everyone has time (on money) to go and buy all new makeup just for Halloween. There are lots of great spooky options right at your fingertips.

Thank you guys for reading and please leave a comment telling me what you love most about this season! 🎃

Have a wonderful day!

Disappointing Drugstore Products…

Hello loves!

Anyone who knows me, is aware that I try to be a very positive person. I try to find the up side in everything, and stay away from negativity.

That is one of the big reasons I have avoided doing any blog posts like this, but I have realized as a writer and an avid beauty lover sometimes you have to share a little critique.

Yes, I have made a list of what I consider disappointing beauty products. Now I understand all our opinions and experiences may different , so I want to state this is merely my opinion and what I like/dislike will differ from what others think. 🙂

(I laughed as I was taking the following pictures because I felt like I was taking mugshots of all the products 😂)

irst disappointment really hit hard with the Physicians Formula 'Glow and Mood Boosting Blush. I had heard so many rave reviews about this brand so I thought I would try them out. I feel like I got very sucked into the hype with this product. Along with the blush I bought a Pearl Highlighter, which I have given away due to my dislike towards that product as well. From first swatch this blush had no pigmentation to it. I decided to use my brush and try it on my cheeks. It took forever to get any colour pay off, and on top of that, by the second time I went to use it, it had this weird layer on it that made it impossible to get any product out. I tried scraping it with a eyebrow brush to get it off but it continued to 'crust over' no matter what I did. I am willing to give Physicians Formula another try, but I need some great recommendations before I spend any more dollars on their products.

💀 The next product was another hype I got seriously sucked into, and that was the Katy Kat Matte lipsticks by Katy Perry. This was another product I was disappointed by the first swatch. I have tried far better matte lipsticks for way cheaper too. At first swatch, I thought it was the weirdest matte lipstick I had ever tried. It wasn't matte at all, it was more of a gritty lipstick. While the colour is beautiful, the lipstick goes on so patchy it's impossible to appreciate the colour. Along with that, when it finally dries out matte, it has gunked up in the corners of my mouth and the middle of my lips.

💀 Next is the Marcelle 'Flawless Skin Fusion Concealer'. When I bought this I was looking for a great under eye, semi full coverage concealer. I was thinking, if I buy a pricier drugstore Concealer, it only makes sense it would be better quality right? No. What I got was not that at all. The name 'Skin Fusion' lead me to believe it would blend in nicely with my skin. That wasn't the case. I applied the product in my problem areas and began blending. To my surprise, by the time I had began blending the concealer had already oxidized and stared to dry on my skin, leaving a weird outline where I applied it. On top of that, as you can see in the picture it has started to separate, and it hasn't been long from the last time I used it (which was yesterday afternoon) I have never seen a concealer do that before. On the bright side I have found it is ok for carving out a cut crease, and will strictly use it for such. I am definitely sticking to good ol Maybelline Fit Me concealer.

💀 Next up is another popular product that I know not everyone will agree with me on. It is the Maybelline Lash Sensational mascara. I will keep it short by saying it's just way to chunky and thick of a mascara for me. I know some people love wearing thick mascara, but after the first time I tried to wash this off, I knew I wouldn't like it. I love having thick lashes, but this crumbled off the brush every time I used it, falling in my eyes and all over my face. Perhaps I got a bad batch? (Is that possible lol?) I know that Zoe Sugg swears by it, but as much as she is my hero, I just can't bring myself to like it.

💀 Lastly, and most surprisingly is a NYX product. I know I've probably said before that I've never found a NYX product I don't like…well I take it back. This is the NYX Colour Correcting Concealer palette. I was very intrigued by the concept of colour correction. I personally have lots of redness on my face and have always tried to combat that. When I used this palette I was waiting to see the difference in my foundation, but ended up being so disappointed… and slightly green. The Concealer itself does not blend out well. It doesn't sink into the skin, but sits on top of it. Along with the patchiness of it, it is a very greasy concealer as well, making me look even worse in my T-Zone. I kept this palette for my FX makeup (hence why all the green is gone) thinking the colours could make a good base for Special FX bruising.

So that is is! My blacklist items…. I'm only kidding! These personally did not work for me at all, but I'd like to hear if you've tried any of these and what you think of them!

August Favorites!

Hello everyone!

Its been a good while since I’ve done a favourites post hasn’t it? For such a long time I wasn’t using any new products, and was very much in a rut. Now I’m here to share what my staples of August have been!

I must note, usually around this time I start thinking about Autumn and getting excited, but we’ve just been hit with a September heat wave, so I’m still in full summer mode.

I found a new beach very close to me, and it’s so beautiful and sandy, I’ve practically been living there.

This is not the longest favourites post I’ve done, but an honest one for sure!

To start, I was having some trouble with my skin as you all may know. It felt like something was missing from my routine and I didn’t know what. My friend Baylee let me try one of her face masks one night and I instantly loved the benefits it had on my skin. It had really helped my problem areas, and filled the void in my skincare regime.

The face masks I bought are by a brand called Freeman, and I got the Renewing Cucumber (great for rejuvenating your skin) and the Sweet Tea and Lemon Clay mask (intense peel for removing impurities) Both of these masks are wonderful and actually do what they say on the label, as well as being a very satisfying peel of mask.

I was first most impressed by the price. I got them on sale for $4.99 each, and at regular price they are $5.32. It’s a great deal regardless considering the amount of product and the quality of it. I’m almost addicted to peel off masks now!

Now I couldn’t do this post without saying what scents I have been wearing for basically the whole summer season.

They are, Waikiki Beach Coconut, and Fiji Pineapple Palm from Bath and Body Works. Both of these scents are fresh and fruity, giving me a little boost of happy whether it’s first thing in the morning or just before going out for a meal. I love wearing them, spritzing them in my bathroom and even in my car.

On the topic of smells, I’ve been burning this candle from Bath and Body Works all August. It smells EXACTLY like fresh apples, and gives me so much joy. I love the apple tree outside my house and the way it smells when the apples are ripe. This candle brings that smell inside my house too. This is just my top pick of many candles I’ve been burning this summer. (Perhaps a summer candle post on its way?)

My last picks are *drumroll* makeup products! Woohoo!

I’ve been so footloose and fancy free the last few weeks I have my skin a major break from any makeup products. But getting back into the game I found two products that I can’t get enough of. Funnily enough both of them I use on my eyes as well as the face. The first is a Bronzer from Ciaté London, and I use it to contour my face. Being so pale I find it hard to find the right shade of contour and I find this one to be perfect.

Secondly I’ve been glowing it up with this highlighter by Luna. It looks like a strange shade, but goes on the skin beautifully, and is a dream for cool skin tones. As you can see they both swatch so easily and last all day.

I hope everyone is enjoying the last bit of summer! Please let me know what you’ve been loving this summer too! And I will talk to you guys soon! ❤️

My Favourite Drugstore/Cheaper Brushes

Hello lovely peeps!

I wanted to chat today about some of my favourite brushes from the drugstore as well as cheap online alternatives. Basically my goal is to shed light on my favourite brushes that do not sacrifice quality for quantity. 🙂

I went ahead and flexed some editing skills to easily display the names of each brush, starting with the more expensive ones on the right and cheaper on the left.

(A little close up magic to get a better look at the brush shapes)

  • Starting with the most expensive: The LUXIE 514, and the 524T. These two brushes came to me in the Ipsy subscription bag, so I had to do a little research to find out the price. I was a tad shocked to see that the LUXIE 514 cost $22.51, and the 524T (small dual fibre brush) cost $15. Now the quality of the brush is great, but (the dreaded but) I find the actual quality of the brush handle and ferrule to feel, well, a little cheap. Especially in comparison to the Real Techniques brushes. The 514 happens to be my favourite brush to apply foundation with at the moment, but the metal band holding the wooden handle to the bristles is actually crooked. I did not want this to skew my opinion though. These brushes have little to no shedding, and the bristles are soft and flexible, making blending/highlighting dreamy and hassle free.

  •   Real Techniques Powder($12.82) / Stippling ($12.82) / Setting brush ($10.26):  Now I won’t bore you with too extensive of a review on the Real Techniques brushes, since I do believe everyone already knows how universally they are loved.  I’ve raved about them in my favourites posts, and I think every beauty guru on the internet has proven my point already. I will say, that I love how cheap they are, and the price of each set is a great bargain for the amount of brushes you are given. I only have beef with the fact that some brushes only come in sets. There, I said it. There are brushes that I’ve wanted so bad, but didn’t need the whole set. I realize the steal of a deal the sets are, but I’d personally like to see more individually sold brushes. On a positive ending, you cannot beat their quality and beautiful packaging.

  • NYX 03 Pro Muli Purpose Buffing Brush ($17) and NYX 16 Pro blending Brush ($10): NYX is a brand most known for their impressive selections of lipsticks, as well as their professional  level products. However, I feel as though their selection of brushes have been overshadowed, and I barely see them spoken about online (if at all). I definitely feel like they deserve more applause. The quality of the brush in comparison to the price is amazing. You don’t have to break your bank to get a whole set, and all the brushes are sold individually. The brushes are soft and look aesthetically pleasing, while being sturdy and made to last. NYX is one of my go-to holy grail brands, and I will continue supporting them faithfully. These brushes have reinforced my love even more!

  • Last but not least, London Premiere: This is a brand I had no idea about until I took a leap of faith. I needed a flat brush to apply concealer, but instead found the London Premiere Foundation Brush ($6.99), and soon followed with the Crease Brush ($6.99). When I first tried them out I was not expecting much from a relatively unknown brand, as well as a cheaper one. Boy was I wrong. While London Premiere does not have a huge variety of face brushes, its selection of eye brushes make up for it. I have had zero shedding, and they wash so easy, keeping their original shape once dry. This brand is the MVP of this post, and I think its wonderful for anyone starting their makeup kit on a budget. The one critique I have, is that their makeup sponge does not make the cut. The brushes are the real deal.

I hope this post was helpful for anyone looking to expand their brush collection, but may be on a budget, or just looking to try a new brand! Let me know if you’ve tried any of the brands I’ve mentioned, or what some of your favourites are. I love feedback!

A side note: the prices displayed are the online prices, which doesn’t include shipping, hence why they might be a tad pricier in store. Still I think they’re all a bargain, and I paid for the in store price.

All of the opinions in this post are 100% mine, and always honest! These are just my favourites of each brand I own.
